Hyperlink Tokens for Information Access

New tool automates the installation of Hyperlink tokens into Electronic
Documentation

Boston, MA-DataBase Publishing Software, Inc. (DPS) announces a tool that
helps authors and readers navigate information in on line, computerized
documents. This tool inserts Hyperlink tokens in the documents, automating
what can otherwise be a labor-intensive process.

Placed next to key words in a document, Hyperlink tokens provide "push
button" access to more information about a topic. A reader selects or
"pushes" a Hyperlink token and the related information appears.

Before the development of the DPS tool, embedding hyperlink tokens in a
document was a labor-intensive, error-prone process. An author would
locate each keyword, create a Hyperlink token, and enter the linking
information. Now, the DPS Hyperlink tool automates that process by both
searching for keywords and creating the appropriate hyperlink tokens.

"The users of this tool are many and varied," explained Judy Aparo, Sr.
Account Manager. "For example, a recent DPS client needed to link a quick
reference parts catalog listing to more detailed information about the
specific parts listed. Hyperlinks were added to the index so that each
item was linked to its underlying data. Now operator can more quickly and
easily access parts data, and the parts catalog writers have an automated
method to produce, present and navigate that information."

A parts catalog is just one example of the may ways that Hyperlink tokens
can be used to automate the process of information access for on-line
documentation. These "data links" can be embedded into any interactive
document where the reader may require more detailed information.

Since 1990, DPS has helped hundreds of organizations manage, maintain and
present their business in formatting for both internal and external use.
