New Cylink DSU/CSUs Feature Embedded, Extended SNMP

October 6, 1994 -- SUNNYVALE, CA: Cylink Corporation, world leader in
information security systems, has introduced two Data/Channel Service
Units with embedded SNMP agents. The new units, the 5000 DSU/CSU and 6000
DSU/CSU, communicate directly with the user's SNMP manager, eliminating
the need for additional telephone line access to remote units or
additional computers to manage the system.

Both units support the full range of TRAP, GET, and SET commands, which
permit any SNMP Manager to monitor and control completely any 5000 or 6000
DSU/CSUs on the system.

"Cylink's private MIB, which extends beyond the customary industry-standard
DS1 and DS3 MIBs, permits the user to exercise total control over every
feature, function, and attribute of the 5000/6000 DSU/CSUs from any SNMP
Manager," explains Bob Hanson, Product Line Manager for Cyink's DSU/CSU
products.

Incorporating FLASH memory, both units can be upgraded in the field via
software download from a PC or Cylink's Cynet Manager.

5000 DSU/CSU - Intelligent Multiplexing for Fractional Tl Networks

Cylink's new 5000 DSU/CSU improves the cost-effectiveness of -voice, -data
-and- frame relay-services by -multiplexing the sub-T1-speed information
onto a Tl circuit.

In addition to its multiplexing capabilities, the 5000 DSU/CSU provides
drop and insert functionality and direct connection to voice and data
devices. It also provides remote access capabilities which allow users to
monitor link performance and exchange configuration information between
the near and far end.

The 5000DSU/CSU also offers a wide variety of access approaches and
transport mechanisms, including fully flexible end-to-end communications.

6000 DSU/CSU - for T3 Networks

The Cylink 6000 DSU/CSU has been designed specifically for T3 networks. It
incorporates many of the features of the 5000 DSU/CSU, including embedded
SNMP, remote management, and field upgradability.

The 6000 DSU/CSU implements many critical functions for T3 networks,
including:

* Interface conversion between the telco T3 trunk and the user's DTE HSSI

* Full spectrum of alarm reporting, report generation, and remote alarm
dial-out for error thresholds, signal losses, and equipment problems

* In-band Ethernet LAN support, using Cylink's TCP/IP LAN Gateway

* Comprehensive diagnostics and performance monitoring

* Hot standby protection
