Secure Comm For Windows and Secure Link for Windows for CC:Mail Mobile

September 1, 1994 -- Cylink announces today two products in its new Secure
Software to provide completely integrated solutions for the major problem
in network management today - dial-in remote access security. For large
corporations, banks, and other institutions with a mobile workforce and
off-premises or branch-office computing needs, Cylink's new Secure
products, Secure Comm for Windows and Secure Link for CC:Mail, support all
the key ingredients for total information security:

* access control
* authentication
* transaction integrity
* confidentiality

Working with Cylink's market-leading hardware encryptors, these two new
Secure Software products provide a total security and privacy solution
across the enterprise network. The introduction includes the following
products:

* Secure Comm for Windows - A complete package for online transaction and
offline file security, comprising authentication, access control, data
integrity, and data confidentiality. Secure Comm for Windows supports DES
transaction and file encryption, the DSS digital signature standard, user
password control, and automatic key management for online communications.
It also has options for file compression and uuencoding for economy and
compatibility with UNIX and Internet e-mail environments.

Secure Comm for Windows will be available in mid-October. List price is
$395 for a single copy. However Cylink intends to emphasize site licenses
for large corporate enterprises and institutions. Secure Comm for Windows
runs on Windows 3.1 or above on a 386/486/Pentium, and requires 4 MB of
RAM.

"Secure Comm for Windows is the only product on the market today that
addresses the issues created by the lack of centralized data security in
today's LAN-based, client-server computing environment," said Phil Burton,
product line manager of Secure Software at Cylink. According to Burton,
while the new computing environment has created many opportunities for
improved productivity, it has also led to increased problems because of
inconsistent support for security in various client/server applications,
compared with the centralized mainframe environment.

According to Burton, I.T. managers agree that telecommuting and home- and
travel-based computing on notebooks and laptops have ended the era of
closed corporate computing. The need for information anytime and anywhere
has led to ubiquitous availability through dial-in telephone and data
network services." Added Burton, "In today's computing environment, login
passwords alone do not provide sufficient security against industrial
spies and hackers."

* Secure Link for CC:Mail Mobile - This Cylink product extends the
capabilities of CC:Mail Mobile for Windows to provide online data security
for electronic mail, including file attachments, exchanged between a
CC:Mail host server and a client system running CC:Mail Mobile. Secure
Link for CC:Mail Mobile also provides the same offline file security
capabilities as Secure Comm for Windows. Once installed on a user's
system, operation of Secure Link for CC:Mail will be totally transparent
both to the user and to the CC:Mail Mobile software.

According to Burton, "Secure Link for CC:Mail addresses a major market
segment of e-mail users. Cylink will continue to expand its Secure family
to support other installed bases of e-mail users."

Information Security Concerns Within The Corporation

Unlike the mainframe environment, security in the new distributed computing
environment is often forgotten because of the lack of awareness of the
threats and vulnerabilities, and, until now, the lack of cost-effective
solutions.

With the plethora of hardware platforms, operating systems and network
systems, data base systems, etc., individual users cannot assume that
their data is always being automatically safeguarded by built-in
facilities within the network. Every network server, every dial-in port,
even the network cable itself, can be a security weakness. Thus, there are
many points of failure for information security in a network, and
therefore more opportunities for electronic espionage. True data security
is achievable only by protecting each online connection link, by digitally
signing application files to guarantee the identity of the sender and the
integrity of the data, and by encrypting application files so that only
the intended recipients, with the proper secret keys, can decrypt them.

With the introduction of Cylink's new Secure Comm for Windows, and Secure
Link for CC:Mail, any company or institution can have cost-effective and
easily managed solutions to both anytime, anywhere mobile computing and
the protection of vital data.
