Unique coprocessor technology speeds the fastest Mac & turns color copier
into high resolution color printer

Newbury Park, CA. - YARC Systems today announced three new products
expressly designed to enhance the already impressive new Power Macintosh
9500 which incorporates the industry standard PCI bus. These are the HYDRA
and SCREAMER accelerator cards and the all new YARC-RIP. All three are
being co-marketed with Apple Computer, and will be shown worldwide as
Apple releases its new Power Macintosh 9500.

YARC-RIP the first plug-and-play RIP for Macintosh

Designed to transform Canon Color Laser Copiers into high resolution color
printers, YARC-RIP is the first plug-and-play RIP server for the
Macintosh. Instead of the usual workstation RIP server, YARC's PCI board
resides inside the Power Macintosh 9500 and can be installed by virtually
anyone in less than five minutes. Interface is direct from the Mac to the
CLC.

Considering suggested retail price of $11,995 and 400x400dpi resolution on
a full tabloid page, YARC-RIP is obviously aimed squarely at the short
run, high quality printing market now dominated by EFI's Fiery RIP.

According to YARC Chairman, Dr. Trevor Marshall, "We've put all our years
of coprocessor experience together with Apple's new PCI technology. The
result is a sensibly-priced RIP offering superb performance. It could not
have been done without the superior performance of the PCI bus."

YARC has worked closely with Apple in development, and the result is a
product tightly integrated with the Mac OST". This, in turn, means
reliable, fast imaging of Japanese and other complex non-English Macintosh
fonts.

YARC-RIP uses it's own PowerPC 601 RISC processor together with the host
processor in the Macintosh to speed up PostScript interpretation. Features
include seamless multitasking, integrated spooler and OPI system.
ColorSync 2.0 calibration is built in as is a unique frequency synthesizer
to provide precision image sizing.

Nu-bus versions of the YARC-RIP have been shipping for some time and
currently drive both the Heidelberg GTO-DI digital press and Linotronic
L12/L15 imagesetters. A daughter board for the new PCI product also
supports these output devices.

SCREAMER the only way to go

YARC's second new product, the SCREAMER, is described by Dr. Marshall as
"the only way to go for QuickDraw 3D."

SCREAMER uses YARC's widely recognized acceleration technology and the
GLINT 300SX graphics processor to combine workstation class 3D graphics
acceleration and 2D performance into a single low cost solution.

"This is really our first mass market product," says Dr. Marshall. "We're
talking here about prices starting under $1,000 and dramatically faster
performance for all applications using QuickDraw and running on the new
PCI-based machines. Again it was possible, thanks mainly to the new Power
Macintosh PCI bus and Apple's foresight in allowing 3D vendors access to
the Mac OS acceleration primitives," he says.

SCREAMER is available in two configurations; a low cost version with 2Mb
Frame and 2Mb Depth buffer and a professional version with 4Mb Frame and
5Mb Depth buffer. Extra memory enables higher resolution and enhanced
features. The card supports resolutions of 640x480, 800x600, 832x624 and
1152x870 and offers auto-sensing for most Apple monitors.

HYDRA provides symmetric RISC multi-processing

Also new from YARC is the PCI version of the HYDRA coprocessor. The card
uses one, or two, PowerPC 601's connected in a Symmetrical
Multi-Processing configuration and delivers a nearly linear increase in
computing power.

YARC 's multi-threaded software interfaces with the Macintosh to make the
multiprocessing transparent to the user.

"HYDRA aims at true professionals working in such fields as 3D graphics,
animation and medical imaging," says Dr. Marshall, "and is primarily for
the OEM market. For specific applications running on the new machines,
HYDRA takes performance beyond anything else available."

The board is highly configurable and can employ from 8Mb to 64Mb of special
high speed dynamic memory. Depending on the specific application, as many
as three HYDRA boards can be used for even greater performance increases.

YARC has long supported such applications as MacRenderman and Shade III.
Other developers are currently porting to the new HYDRA and a current
up-to-date list is available by contacting YARC.
