WELCH ALLYN NEW LOW COST, CONTACT WAND SCANNER

June 1, 1995 -- Skaneateles Falls, NY - Welch Allyn announced that it has
developed a new contact bar code wand reader, the SCANTEAM 2400. The new
wand reader, which is available beginning July 1995, is a low cost,
feature rich decoded output contact wand. Key features of the new wand
include reduced power consumption, improved RS-232 interface support and
improved operator feedback.

The ST2400 contact wand scanner is compatible with all major industry
symbologies and is menu programmable for maximum application flexibility.
The wand reader is based upon Welch Allyn's industry leading decoding and
interfacing common architectures, offering customers superior performance,
according to Liz Michalec, Marketing Communications Manager at Welch
Allyn. A good read LED and beeper feedback provides quick, high quality
service, and
programmable low power consumption options increase the ST2400's
effectiveness with portable units.

The wand reader, which will initially feature a menu-programmable RS-232
interface, will be upgradable in the future as new symbologies and
interfaces are developed. "The user's ability to read a variety of codes
is greatly enhanced with the ST2400. The unit employs the same
architecture found in our family of contact and non-contact bar code
readers. This commonality will allow the ST2400 to accept new developments
faster," she explained.
