U.S. ROBOTICS SHEDS LIGHT ON PCMCIA CONNECTIONS: INTRODUCES FIRST PCMCIA PC
CARD WITH STATUS LIGHTS

New Courier DataView Provides LEDs, Increases Ease of Use

SKOKIE, Ill., -- May 22, 1995 -- In a new development for users of portable
modems, the Corporate/Systems Division of U.S. Robotics (NASDAQ:USRX)
today announced a revolutionary design in its Courier product line: the
industry's first PCMCIA PC Card modem with status lights.

The Courier V.Everything PCMCIA PC Card with DataView, available in July,
1995, allows PCMCIA PC Card modem users to take advantage of the same
status indicators available on desktop modems. For the first time, the new
DataView design allows users to instantly view the status of their
connections. In the past, information about PCMCIA PC Card modem
connections was very limited; often, there was no reliable way of knowing
whether the modem was receiving power or making a connection to a remote
computer.

The DataView product incorporates four LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) that
allow constant monitoring of power, send, receive and online functions
during a fax or data transfer. The ability to monitor these transfers
helps eliminate troubleshooting questions by displaying the status of each
transmission.

"For corporate customers, particularly IS managers, this will make support
issues a lot easier to resolve," said Bob Rainone, director of marketing
for U.S. Robotics' Corporate/Systems Division. "As more employees require
remote connectivity to LAN-based services, online services and the
Internet, the ability to quickly view the status of a connection takes the
mystery out of portable computing, easing the growing burden on IS
staffs."

"It's also an issue of user comfort -- many users are accustomed to having
LEDs on the desktop, and they want to have them when they're on the road
as well," added Rainone.

Courier DataView Pricing/Features

List price for the Courier V.Everything PCMCIA PC Card with DataView is
$575. The product provides the same features as U.S. Robotics'

proprietary standards such as V.Fast Class and V.32 terbo and
compatibility with the installed base of V.32 bis and slower-speed
modems.

The company will also provide a 14.4 Kbps version of the product, the
Courier V.32 bis PCMCIA PC Card with DataView. Available in August, the
