The Satellite Pro 400 Series is the ultimate modular multimedia notebook.
Toshiba's new SelectBay allows for interchanging the modular floppy disk
drive with a Quad-Speed CD-ROM. For the users' convenience, the floppy
disk drive fits into a case that can be connected externally while the
CD-ROM is being used in the SelectBay slot, without giving up the main
system battery. The Satellite Pro 400 Series is available in two models:
The Satellite Pro 400CDT comes with the modular Quad-Speed CD-ROM drive,
the modular floppy disk drive and the external floppy drive case. The
400CS model comes with the floppy drive module. The CD-ROM module and
external floppy drive case can be purchased separately.

Multimedia ready, the Satellite Pro 400 Series comes equipped with
integrated 16-bit stereo sound with .WAV, MIDI and Sound Blaster Pro audio

To meet the large storage demands of multimedia presentations, an immense
810 million byte (=770MB) hard disk drive and 8MB of high speed EDO DRAM
memory (expandable to 40MB) comes standard. In addition, the integrated
CD-ROM option provides almost limitless access to data as well.

For maximum expansion and connectivity, the Satellite Pro 400 Series has a
PC Card slot with stacked connectors which hold two Type II or one Type
III PC Card(s). Toshiba's optional enhanced port replicator provides even
more expandability options, with access to two additional Type III PC Card
slots for a total of four PC Card slots available when connected to the
notebook. The optional port replicator provides true desktop replacement
with "one-touch" connectivity to desktop peripherals such as an external
keyboard, monitor and LAN PC Cards. Expandability is further enhanced by
the systems' plug-and-play support, which provides hot and warm docking
capabilities with various peripherals. Toshiba has also implemented an
infrared port for wireless connectivity between the notebook and other
devices, such as printers, computers and other infrared compatible
devices.

Satellite Pro 400 Series Productivity Features

To boost productivity, the Satellite Pro 400 Series includes Toshiba's
AccuPoint integrated pointing device for less hand fatigue as well as a
built-in power supply which eliminates the need for a bulky AC adapter.
The Satellite Pro 400CDT weighs only 7.3 pounds with the CD-ROM module and
battery and the 400CS weighs less than 7 pounds with the floppy disk drive
and battery. Both models are 11.8 inches (W) by 9.0 inches (D) by 2.2
inches (H).

The advanced Lithium-Ion battery provides 2+ hours of battery life.
Extended battery life is made available by utilizing Toshiba's MaxTime
Power Management. To further heighten productivity, the Satellite Pro 400
Series charges the system's battery while the unit is on or off.

Target Markets

"Incorporating a Pentium processor and integrated CD-ROM technology has
taken the Satellite Pro Series to new heights in performance," commented
Winkler. "A wide range of customers including field professionals and
small business and home users, can now utilize some of the most
sophisticated technology in a lightweight, economical notebook."

The Satellite Pro 400 Series is ideal for a variety of applications,
including multimedia training and education, software and hardware design
and development, data retrieval, finance and advanced high-speed
communications. Customers who require advanced performance, maximum
storage, desktop replacement capabilities and multimedia functionality in
a highly portable form will find the Satellite Pro 400 Series an ideal
companion.
