Tektronix Shows Phaser 340 Color Printer at PC Expo in New York

New Solid-Ink Technology Printer on Display

PC Expo, New York, June 20, 1995 - Tektronix Inc. (NYSE:TEK) is
demonstrating the Phaser 340--the world's fastest desktop color
printer--at PC Expo in Booth 2140, Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, from
June 20-22. The Phaser 340 prints at four pages per minute, surpassing the
speed of other laser-class desktop color printers.

The Phaser 340 employs a new, simplified printer design, combined with
proven solid ink technology, to give users reliable performance in busy
workgroup settings. Unlike other desktop color printers, the Phaser 340
creates high-quality color output on ordinary office papers and vibrant,
saturated colors on transparency film, making it the first desktop color
printer to handle the full range of business color printing applications
with speed and ease.

The Phaser 340 starts at a suggested list price of $4,995 (U.S.). Per-page
print costs are below those of other desktop color printing technologies,
with average typical color pages costing 11 cents.

Tektronix designed the Phaser 340 to break through the barriers of speed,
simplicity, reliability and ease of use that have thus far slowed the
adoption of desktop color printing in the office. This exemplifies
Tektronix' strategy to design products to appeal to the broadest market
segments.

This combination of speed, reliability and simplicity makes the Phaser 340
appealing for color printing applications in typical offices, including
reports, proposals, financial charts and sales documents. The Phaser 340
is also ideal for short-run printing projects, such as brochures and
newsletters.

"The Phaser 340 is what people expect from desktop color laser printing but
haven't been able to get - fast, reliable, quality color for workgroups,"
said A. J. Rogers, CPID strategic marketing manager. "We believe that the
Phaser 340 is the breakthrough desktop printer that will transform how
color is used in the office."

A Complete Line of Color Printers for Every Need

Tektronix is showing its line of color printing technologies including
color laser, thermal transfer, dye sublimation and liquid ink-jet.
Tektronix is currently the market share leader in dye sublimation, solid
inkjet and thermal transfer printing.

The Phaser 540 Plus color laser printer is the first desktop color printer
that produces continuous-tone color for photographic quality images at
print-on-demand speeds. The Phaser Copystation, an accessory that lets the
Phaser 540 Plus or Phaser 340 make copies of color originals, will also be
shown at Tektronix' booth.

The Phaser 140 is an entry-level, plain paper color printer for small
offices. Using BubbleJet technology, the Phaser 140 is designed for those
beginning to use color, or for professionals who want faster processing
and brilliant, saturated colors compared to other inkjet printers on the
market.

The Phaser 440 and Phaser 480X are full-bleed dye sublimation color
printers designed for workgroups in the graphic arts, science and
engineering industries that require continuous-tone, photographic-quality
images.

The Phaser 240 color printer provides 600 by 300 dots-per-inch (dpi)
thermal transfer technology for printing on common office laser papers -
bringing high-resolution color to business environments. It prints at
speeds of two pages per minute and offers a dual-tray configuration for
added convenience in workgroup environments.

The Phaser 300i features full-bleed 11 by 17-inch output and uses
Tektronix' proprietary phase-change solid-ink technology for brilliant,
high-resolution color printing on virtually any kind of paper. This
technology is suitable for a wide range of graphic arts,
scientific/engineering and business applications.

All Tektronix color printers are designed for shareability in multiplatform
work environments and include AppleTalk, serial and parallel ports with
automatic switching among each of the three interfaces, as well as
optional EtherTalk, TCP/IP and Novell connectivity. In addition, all
Tektronix printers implement Adobe Systems' PostScript Level 2 software.
