SYMANTEC ANNOUNCES THE VALUE VOLUME LICENSING PROGRAM FOR SOFTWARE

- New easy-to-learn, sell, and use software licensing program for resellers
targets small, medium and large businesses

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- June 19, 1995 -- Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC)
today announced the VALUE Program (Volume Licenses for Applications and
Utilities). Symantec is now making its major products - utilities,
applications, enterprise development software and networking products -
available through distribution in the form of volume licenses. The program
is open to all resellers who buy through distribution without additional
authorization. The program, which will also be offered to Symantec's
direct reseller accounts, complements the current Volume Incentive Program
(VIP) which Symantec has successfully sold since 1990.

Symantec's distribution partners both in the retail and academic markets
will sell the program: Ingram Micro, Merisel and Tech Data on the retail
side; Douglas Stewart, Edutech, Ingram Micro Academic, and NACSCorp on the
education side. Full launch of the program began June 5, 1995.

"The impetus behind the VALUE Program was to develop a program that would
easily allow all resellers to sell Symantec products in quantity," said
Phil Dunkelberger, Symantec's vice president of US sales. "We didn't
reinvent the wheel but rather looked at all of the licensing programs out
there, and integrated the best features into our program."

Symantec has implemented a simple four-step process for selling VALUE
licenses:

1) Reseller solicits order from enduser and calls distributor for
   pricing.
2) Reseller quotes price to enduser and obtains an order.
3) Reseller generates a PO and sends to distributor.
4) Distributor and Symantec finalize the details and Symantec ships
a License Certificate directly to the enduser authorizing him/her
to duplicate the standard packaged product for the number of
   licenses purchased.

"Symantec spent a considerable amount of time soliciting feedback as they
attempted to design a licensing program that would be simple and
effective," said Beth Wright, Merisel Director of Software Products and
Marketing. "'The VALUE Program provides all Merisel resellers greater
opportunity to increase software sales and profitability."

"We have already begun customer communications regarding the new VALUE
Program, and initial feedback has been very positive," said Terry Bazzone,
Tech Data's vice president of Software Product Marketing. "Any reseller
offering Symantec products should carefully consider this program, which
is both cost-effective and efficient."

The VALUE Program is a complement to the existing Enterprise Alliance
Associate Program (EAAP) which was launched in January 1995. In addition
to the original partner Tech Data who piloted the program for Symantec,
Ingram Micro and Merisel are now on board to assist in the recruitment and
support of VARs for the program. To date more than 250 Associates have
joined the program. The VALUE program offers Enterprise Alliance
Associates a real benefit as it was designed to help them take advantage
of selling volume licenses.

Depending on the product type, order quantities range from 10 to 1000+
units. VALUE Program discounts start at approximately 35% off of packaged
product enduser costs and increase with volume up to 1000 units.
