Second Wave's NuBus Expansion Chassis for the PCI-based Power Macintosh
9500

June 19, 1995 -- Austin, TX--Second Wave, Inc. has developed a PCI-to-NuBus
bridge for the PCI-based Power Macintosh 9500. Macintosh users with an
investment in NuBus hardware can maintain that investment and operate
their NuBus cards in a Second Wave expansion chassis system connected to
the Power Macintosh 9500. The 2-, 4-, and 8-slot PCI-to-NuBus chassis
systems from Second Wave, Inc., the Xpanse PN series, come complete with a
PCI interface card, an interface cable, and an external expansion chassis
with two, four, or eight NuBus card slots.

Second Wave's PCI interface card converts the PCI-bus to NuBus to allow
existing NuBus boards to function in the expansion chassis attached to the
Power Macintosh 9500. "This is the hardware equivalent of the Power
Macintosh software. emulation mode. The preservation of investment in
NuBus hardware is maintained. In many applications, the investment in
NuBus hardware is ten times greater than the original purchase price of
the Macintosh," stated Roger Storer, vice president of engineering for
Second Wave. "Additionally, it could be a year or more before some NuBus
hardware migrates to the PCI standard and some boards may never migrate.
Second Wave offers breathing space to NuBus board developers and a CPU
upgrade path to their customers."

Second Wave has been marketing and manufacturing NuBus expansion chassis
systems since 1987, for the Macintosh II family, the Centris, Quadra and
the Power Macintosh. This latest announcement reaffirms the company's
ongoing commitment to support add-on slot capability and upgradability for
Macintosh systems. Card slot-intensive applications include video editing
and production, multi-channel audio applications, image processing,
digital signal processing, data acquisition, measurement and control, and
bulletin board systems.

Xpanse PN200, the 2-slot PCI-to-NuBus expansion chassis, operates from the
Macintosh power supply. Xpanse PN400 and Xpanse PN800 contain their own
power supplies between 150W and 400W, a cooling system, a four- or
eight-slot motherboard, and optional twin SCSI drive bays. Xpanse PN200
retails for $595. Xpanse PN400 prices start at $995. Xpanse PN800 prices
start at $1895. Xpanse PN800 is available in desktop or rackmount
enclosures. Shipments of the Xpanse PN series will commence June 19, 1995.
Second Wave products carry a one-year warranty.
