PANASONIC UNVEILS NEW ULTRACOMPACT 600-DPI-CLASS LASER PRINTER OPTIMIZED
FOR WINDOWS

- KX-P6100 Laser Printer, First in a Series to Use New Proprietary
Minitower Engine, Is Fast, Easy to Use and Features Graphically
Interactive Diagnostics

New York, NY (June 20, 1995) -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company
(PCSC), a division of Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, introduces the
KX-P6100, an affordable 6 page-per-minute, 600-dpi class laser printer
with 1200 x 300 dpi when using Edge Enhancement Technology. The KX-P6100
is the first in a series to employ the company's new proprietary laser
engine and will be on display at Booth #3160.

The new KX-P6100 is designed for Windows users. It utilizes the processing
power in the PC to produce a document, resulting in ultra-fast WYSIWYG
Windows printing. In addition, the performance of the KX-P6100 is
automatically enhanced as users upgrade their PCs with additional memory,
larger capacity hard disks and faster processors.

Its 600-dpi-class print quality is achieved by the patented edge
enhancement technology (EET). For crisp, clear images, the printer also
incorporates a photo enhancement feature. According to John McIntyre,
director of Electronic Printer Systems at BIS Strategic Decisions, the
KX-P6100 "has one of the best, if not the best, text print quality I've
seen in its price category."

The KX-P6100 is extremely easy to use, providing a host of unique features
that require the user to merely point and click from the Windows utility
software. Among these include: a 2up/4up feature, enabling the user to
print 2 or 4 pages on a single letter-sized sheet; semi-automatic
duplexing which prints on both sides of the page in either "book" or
"report" style; reverse order printing; and an overlay feature, allowing
the user to overlay an image on any document printed in the GDI mode.
According to Marco G. Boer, senior analyst at IDC, "Printing in a
Windows-based environment has not always been easy, especially for those
users who do not have the luxury of a corporate MIS support team. The new
Panasonic KX-P6100 is designed to provide simpler and more responsive
printing for small business and home users."

The interactive on-screen "Show Me" display is perhaps the most graphically
animated guide to virtually any printer problem. For example, if the
printer is out of paper, the display not only indicates the problem but
shows the user where and how to load the paper in step-by-step movements.
"This feature will take away much of the frustration small business and
home users have found with today's printers and, at the same time, reduce
late-hour emergency support calls to the manufacturer as well as the
reseller," said Boer. In 1995, IDC estimates that small businesses and
home users will buy 7.3 million new printers.

"We anticipate that a large percentage of this year's new printer
purchasers in the SOHO market will buy laser printers, due to their
affordability, reliability and the fact that laser print quality has
become a de facto standard in the business environment," said Timothy J.
Curran, vice president arid group general manager of Panasonic's Computer
Products Group. "Our KX-P6100 takes laser printing one step further -it is
extremely user friendly. Whether a novice or an MIS manager, this printer
has been designed for every level of end user."

Due to its unique minitower design, the KX-P6100 takes up significantly
less desk space than conventional laser printers, making it one of the
world's smallest laser printers. The printer is also designed to be
completely silent - at 0 dB - in its standby mode.

Special environmental features conserve energy and toner usage. Whereas the
majority of processing units on the market are discarded once the toner is
empty, resulting in the discard of a perfectly operational drum, the
KX-P6100 processing unit's unique all-in-one cartridge allows users to
refill the toner through its special no-spill system and thus, reuse the
drum. Power Save reduces power usage by slipping into the sleep mode if
data is not received within 15 minutes, and TonrSavR reduces the cost of
printing by as much as 50 percent. The KX-P6100 complies with the recently
announced future EPA Energy Star program guidelines.

The new printer provides a multi-purpose paper tray that accepts up to 100
sheets of 20-pound paper, 10 envelopes, 30 labels or 30 transparencies.

The system requirements for the KX-P6100 are as follows:

Hardware: * IBM PC-compatible 386SX, 16 MHz or faster processor
            (486 recommended)
          * At least 4 MB RAM (8 MB or more recommended)
          * Approximately 4 MB free hard disk space

Software: * MS-DOS 3.3 or later
          * Microsoft Windows 3.1 or later
          * Permanent virtual memory (total of 12.5 MB of PC RAM plus
            Virtual Memory is required)

The KX-P6100 also has HP Laser Jet IIP software emulation for DOS software
running on Windows.

Carrying a suggested retail price of $499, the KX-P6100 includes a limited
one-year hassle-free exchange warranty, whereby the user can call a
Panasonic technician at 1-800-222-0584 if a problem occurs. Once a
problem, covered by the warranty, is diagnosed, a replacement unit is
shipped within one business day, and the original printer is picked up a
few days later.

The KX-P6100 is 11.3" H x 5.2" W x 14.9" D and weighs only 14.4 pounds. It
will be available to consumers in May.
