PANASONIC DEBUTS NEW LINE OF LASER PRINTERS

6000 Series Printers Pack Big Value In Minitower Design

New York, NY (June 20, 1995) -- Panasonic Communications & Systems Company
(PCSC), a division of Matsushita Electric Corp. of America, is taking the
wraps off its new KX-P6000 family of high-performance laser printers,
informally called the Concord Series, at PC Expo, booth #3160. The name
Concord was chosen for the printers' speed, high performance and sleek
design.

On display at the show are the KX-P6100, targeted for the personal Windows
user; the KX-P6500, a dual emulation model; and the KX-P6600, a PCL Se
laser for personal users in DOS or Windows environments.

At the heart of all the 6000 Series printers is the company's new
proprietary laser engine, which, according to Timothy J. Curran, vice
president for Panasonic's Computer Products Group, is one of the principal
reasons why the units produce a degree of resolution in excess of their
actual dpi specification. Said Curran: "The 6100 is spec'd at 1200 dpi by
300 dpi, and with its Edge Enhancement Technology (EET) the print quality
is clearly in the 600 dpi class. Similarly, the 6500 and 6600 are spec'd
at 2400 dpi by 600 dpi, but you'd be hard-pressed to detect any print
quality insufficiency compared to 1200 dpi-rated printers. The
edge-smoothing technology in these printers is that good; so good that the
way we evaluate and rate printer resolution should perhaps be
reexamined."

If the new laser engine is the heart of 6000 Series printers, then the
Windows-optimized GDI is surely the brains. A status display screen
monitors all printing functions, and a lively, animated help screen
actually walks the user through the steps required to perform maintenance
tasks or to correct a print condition. Gary Bailer, national sales and
marketing manager for Panasonic's printer division, put it simply: "Once
the printer is connected, and the user has a chance to become familiar
with its operation, the manual may never again need to be consulted."

Space is another major selling point of the 6000 Series printers. Their
footprint, at 14.9" x 5.2", is only slightly larger than a sheet of legal
paper; this unique, upright, minitower design allows them to be easily
kept right on the desktop, providing optimum convenience.

While the 6000 Series' high-resolution laser printing, ease of operation
and affordability should offer many users all the appeal they require,
persons who are involved in desktop publishing and other graphic
applications will have considerably more to get excited about. The
printers come with an array of features which, in the aggregate, provide
the graphics professional with a great deal of control, flexibility and
precision. A photo enhancement feature, for example, means that scanned
images of photos and halftones print picture-perfectly. Other features
provide for two-sided printing, printing multiple pages on a single sheet,
scaling from 10% to 500%, and overlaying a text or graphic element on top
of other text.

All models are EPA Energy Star compliant. Power Save reduces electrical
consumption by slipping into sleep mode after 15 minutes of non-activity,
at which time the printers are completely silent. TonrSavR and a
refillable toner cartridge reduce toner consumption and cost up to 50%. In
standby mode, the printers are completely silent.

Because the 6000 Series printers draw upon the processing power of the PC
itself, processor upgrades and memory enhancements to the computer (or
server) have the side benefit of further improving the printer's
performance.

The Series' models are all covered by a limited one-year hassle-free
exchange warranty, whereby the user can call a Panasonic technician at
1-800-222-0584 if a problem occurs. Once a warranty-covered problem is
diagnosed, a replacement unit is shipped within one business day, and the
original printer is picked up within a matter of days.

In the United States, Panasonic Communications & Systems Company, a
