OKIDATA INTRODUCES AN ADVANCED NETWORK PRINTER APPLICATION

-- New Software Will Support the Company's Network Capable Printers --

MT LAUREL, N.J., May 22, 1995 -- With the May 1995 introduction of its
first networkable printer, Okidata introduced OkiView, a new printer
control application software that brings enhanced features and
functionality to network printing solutions. The software, available at no
additional charge with Okidata's network interface cards (Ethernet or
Token Ring available) emphasizes Okidata's commitment to providing
complete, easy-to-use network printing solutions for small and medium-size
businesses.

OkiView provides network administrators with diagnostic information about
the current settings of the printer's network adapter card and the network
operating system. Designed specifically for Okidata's new networkable
OL1200 printer, the OkiView Network Software for Windows program allows
users to easily call up an on-screen display which shows the status of all
OL1200 printers on the network.

For each network user, the OkiView software provides a list of all OL1200
printers and their current status. OkiView updates the status
automatically and allows a user to see whether a printer has paper and is
ready to print. Even novice users will find OkiView intuitive and
easy-to-use because OkiView incorporates the familiar Windows interface.
Additionally, OkiView provides on-line assistance to describe each
operation and function in the user's choice of English, French, Spanish
and Portuguese.

OkiView is available for both Okidata's OkiLAN Ethernet and Token Ring
network interface cards. Each network card includes two connectors to
handle the most frequently used cable types. The Ethernet card provides
connectors for twisted-pair (10BaseT) and coaxial (10Base2) cables. The
Token Ring card provides connectors for both unshielded twisted pair (UTP)
and shielded twisted pair (STP) wiring.

DOS, UNIX and OS/2 software utilities are also included for easy set-up and
configuration in a variety of network operating systems (NOS) including
Novell NetWare, LAN Manager, LAN Server, EtherTalk and a number of UNIX
protocols including SUN OS, SCO, HP-UX, IBM AIX and UnixWare. The firmware
in the Ethernet and Token Ring cards reside in flash ROM, and can be
upgraded by the network administrator. EtherTalk and Windows NT support
will be made available in the near future. Prices for Ethernet network
interface card is $495 and Token Ring $695.

"We recognize that a lot more goes into installing printers on the network
than just hardware," says Jim Butterworth, vice president of business
development for Okidata. "With the combination of our OKiView and OkiLAN
products, we feel that we can provide our customers with the best solution
to meet their printing needs."
