Nikon Demonstrates The LS-4500AF

Multi-Format Film Scanner Boasts New Technology for Enhanced Productivity

New York, NY, June 20, 1995 -- Nikon Electronic Imaging is demonstrating
the LS-4500AF, a multi-format, desktop film scanner, at PC Expo. This
entirely new scanner, first shown last week at a press luncheon at New
York's Tavern on The Green, provides high speed, professional quality
color and black-and-white film scanning from negatives and transparencies
in formats from 35mm to 4x5 inches.

"The LS-4500AF offers the PC or Mac system user an easy-to-use, high
resolution, multiple format, desktop scanner that will consistently
produce results comparable to far more costly and complex systems," said
Douglas E. Howe, General Manager at Nikon Electronic Imaging. "The new
scanner's superior imaging capability appeals to the high-end
professional, while its practical versatility responds to the needs of an
entire industry. Its competitive price makes it accessible to all."

John Harcourt, Manager of Strategic Marketing, demonstrated the scanner's
exceptional quality and proclaimed it would outperform scanners priced
tens of thousands of dollars higher. In describing the scanner's ability
to scan a variety of sizes and film types, Harcourt explained the
technology which, in essence, makes the LS-4500AF two scanners in one.

The LS-4500AF is the latest addition to the Nikon Electronic Imaging family
of highly acclaimed film scanners. Small enough for desktop use, the
feature-rich LS-4500AF challenges previous norms in the world of image
scanning. The LS-4500AF scanner provides resolution at 3,000 dpi (35mm)
and 1,000 dpi (4x5 inches). Dual optical design, a feature exclusive to
Nikon, provides extremely high resolution.

The scanner's 12-bit A/D converter preserves the CCD's wide dynamic range,
easily capturing deep shadows to bright highlights, which makes it ideal
for virtually all professional requirements. A front-loading film carrier
system provides faster, easier film loading, can be easily rotated for
fine positioning and alignment prior to scanning, and accepts up to six
35mm frames for "gang" or multiple image scanning.

To further enhance productivity, the LS-4500AF provides high speed scanning
-- as fast as 120 seconds for 35mm and 180 seconds for 4x5 inch. Nikon's
advanced autofocus technology allows the user to optimize scan settings
for maximum sharpness, making it ideal even for large-volume production
requirements.

Fine tolerances in the precision film drive mechanism ensure consistently
high quality scanning results by maintaining precise mechanical alignment.
An automatic energy-saving system turns the lamp off when the unit is not
in use.

For optimum results, Nikon's newest, high-performance software, Nikon Scan,
is included for use with the LS-4500AF scanner. Nikon's award-winning
graphic user interface is compatible with both Macintosh and Windows
platforms and provides a plug-in or TWAIN compatible module, enabling
complete control over image output. Nikon's stand-alone utility, "Nikon
Control" for Macintosh or Windows, provides direct access to scanned
images.

Scheduled to ship in late summer '95, the LS-4500AF Film Scanner's
suggested retail price is $11,395.
