Nikon Develops Sophisticated, New Scanning Software

'Nikon Scan' to Accompany the Acclaimed Scantouch And The Newly Introduced
Super Coolscan, LS-4500AF Film Scanners

New York, NY -- June 20, 1995 -- The latest, plug-in scanning software,
Nikon Scan, designed to provide users with greater efficiency and
convenience in scanning, archiving and managing images, was announced by
Nikon Electronic Imaging executives at a press luncheon at New York's
Tavern on The Green on June 15, 1995. Nikon Scan will be bundled with
Nikon's three-time award-winning AX-1200 Scantouch Flatbed Scanner, as
well as with the two newest additions to Nikon's line of outstanding film
scanners: the LS-1000 SuperCoolscan, a 35mm desktop film scanner; and the
LS-4500AF, an entirely new, multi-format scanner.

"Nikon Scan is an advanced software package that will further enhance the
use of our high quality yet affordable flatbed scanner, Scantouch. The new
software will also ensure the success of our two newest scanners, the
LS-1000 SuperCoolscan and the LS-4500AF," stated Douglas E. Howe, General
Manager of Nikon Electronic Imaging.

In addition to its sophisticated interactive help program, Nikon Scan
boasts brand new features such as bit-adaptive gamma curve editor,
resizable preview and zoom to make film scanning and image management more
efficient than ever before. Designed to deliver the Nikon heritage of
value, reliability and performance, Nikon Scan offers an array of features
including scanner source and source image type selection, autoexposure,
autofocus, crop, resolution, resize, a fiducial reference scale, a pixel
address coordinate display, an on-screen densitometer, sharpening, analog
exposure and color balance, contrast, brightness, white/black point,
histogram, final scan, eject and instant screen update on density and
color adjustment.

Honored by leading industry publications Photo Electronic Imaging, Imaging
Magazine and Electronic Publishing last year, Nikon's AX-1200 Scantouch is
a 30-bit, high resolution scanner that supports documents up to 8.5 x 14
inches, and is capable of scanning positive or negative film up to 4 x 5
inches with the optional Transparency Adapter. Scantouch offers superior
color fidelity, crisp edge definition and a price tag of only $1,720 for
high quality color photo or document scanning. The scanner yields
resolutions of 565 x 1200 dpi, interpolated to 1200 x 1200 dpi through
hardware, 2400 x 2400 dpi through the new software, in a super-fast three
pass RGB scan. The bundled Nikon Scan driver software enables users to
scan from within any third-party application on the host computer
supporting Photoshop-compliant plug-ins. Also included are Nikon Control,
a stand-alone scanning application; Light Source's OFOTO for graphics
scanning capabilities; and Caere's OmniPage Direct for easy-to-use OCR
(optical character recognition).

Nikon also provides a TWAIN-compliant version of Nikon Scan with the PC
Scantouch model that makes it universally compatible with any third-party
application supporting the TWAIN specification.

Nikon Electronic Imaging is a leader in open systems connectivity solutions
