Microtek Announces PageWiz Personal Scanner

PageWiz Targets Office and Mobile Computing Market with Multifunctionality
and Portability

NEW YORK, June 20, 1995 - Microtek Lab, Inc. today introduced the Microtek
PageWiz personal scanner, a new entry into the multi-functional office
product and fax communications market. With a ship date set for August,
1995, the Microtek PageWiz is expected to have a suggested street price of
$199

Given the increasing demand for efficient, paperless document
communication, the Microtek PageWiz provides a low-cost business solution
for small office or corporate environments. Microtek Lab's Woody Hale,
vice president of marketing and sales stated, "The Microtek PageWiz
provides the final solution to consumer demand for the paperless, and also
portable office. This demand started with office suite software, combining
word processing, spreadsheet and database capabilities. Microtek has taken
the suite concept a leap forward with Microtek PageWiz."

Now, Microtek PageWiz closes the loop to the paperless office with a suite
of capabilities for image capture, optical character recognition, computer
faxing, e-mail, and copying from computer to desktop printer. The Microtek
PageWiz can be installed and running in minutes, offering a parallel port
interface with direct pass through to printer link. One of the smallest
and lightest page scanners, Microtek PageWiz offers exceptional
portability and is ideal for laptop as well as desktop computing.

INTEGRATED DRAG AND DROP SOFTWARE AND BUNDLED OCR AND FAX SOLUTIONS

Microtek PageWiz integrates its PageSuite software providing a seamless
solution for document and image scanning and archiving, OCR and image
editing, computer faxing and e-mail, and copying. With an autostart
feature, Microtek PageWiz instantly launches the PageSuite software.
PageSuite intelligently detects paper size and sets scan mode for either
text, charts and graphs and photo scanning in normal, fine or extra fine
resolution. The PageSuite software creates an easy desktop work
environment.

Microtek PageWiz electronic documents can be organized into stacks by
category such as memos and correspondence, invoices, sales reports, and
articles. Just like working with paper, documents can be highlighted in a
variety of colors, annotated with pen tools, faxed, and copied using
desktop or networked printers. TWAIN-compliant, Microtek PageWiz allows
for direct scanning into any OCR, word processing, spreadsheet or other
application supporting the TWAIN industry standard. Microtek PageWiz is
bundled with CAERE's OmniPage Limited Edition for OCR applications. It
also provides a fax software solution enabling users with fax modem cards
to scan in paper documents and fax directly from the PageSuite desktop.

HARDWARE FEATURES

Microtek PageWiz is a paper-driven sheetfed scanner weighing only 2.4
pounds with compact dimensions of 11" x 4.3" x 2.2" (L x D x H). Powered
by a standard AC adapter, it scans in 4-bit grayscale and single bit black
and white modes at 300 x 300 dpi. A 25-pin connector links the scanner to
the PC through the parallel port for easy installation, rapid page
scanning and convenient portability. Microtek PageWiz scans a letter-sized
document at 300 dpi in less than 12 seconds. The average text file size is
around 20KB.

The parallel port connection also eliminates the need for an additional
interface card unlike page scanners using proprietary cards or a serial
interface. For versatile document imaging applications, Microtek PageWiz
accommodates a variety of paper weights from 20# up to 40# bond and paper
sizes from business card to 8.5" x 14".

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS, COMPATIBILITY AND AVAILABILITY

To run PageWiz, an IBM or compatible 386, 486, Pentium or PS/2 system with
4MB RAM and 40 MB hard disk space with 5 MB free is needed. Microtek
PageWiz runs under Windows 3.1 or higher.
