MountainGate Integrates Grand Prix Removable Disk Drives Into Current
Product Lines

4.2 GB Drives Available for VideoGig, IncreMeg, and DataShuttle

Reno, Nevada -- May 5, 1995 -- MountainGate Data Systems, Inc., a Lockheed
Martin company and leading provider of removable storage solutions, today
announced the integration of Quantum Corporation's GrandPrix hard drives
into their existing lines of removable data storage systems. Grand Prix
drives will be available for MountainGate's current product lines which
include the VideoGig, IncreMeg, and DataShuttle product families.
Well-suited for multimedia applications, audio/video editing, and
storage-intensive software applications, Grand Prix offers 7,200 RPM
performance in high end storage solutions with a capacity of 4.2 GB.

According to James Wright, product manager at MountainGate, "We are very
excited to include GrandPrix as part of our current product offerings.
Significant testing has proven that the Grand Prix is the fastest SCSI II
hard disk available. This is the best product on the market today for
video and other high performance applications and will nicely complement
our current product line."

Performance Features

Specifically designed for any application that requires absolute security
when large amounts of data must be stored and transported, Grand Prix
drives support an 800,000-hour MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) ensuring
the highest levels of data integrity. These 3.5 inch drives feature a
patented second-generation PRML (Partial Response Maximum Likelihood) read
channel and as a result, sport sustained data transfer rates of up to 9.7
MB per second.

Grand Prix features some of the highest speed time-to-data rates with an
average seek time of 8.6 milliseconds (ms). Grand Prix's ORCA (Optimized
Reordering Command Algorithm) firmware reduces average latency by 20
percent over competitive drives, thus achieving time-to-data speeds
surpassing most drives available. This also results in significantly fewer
disk drive bottlenecks in I/O intensive, multi-drive/multi-tasking
environments.

Multimedia Features

High sustained data rates and embedded servo technology allow Grand Prix
drives to provide unsurpassed performance for advanced multimedia
applications. The embedded servo design eliminates the need for thermal
calibrations, thus providing uninterrupted data transfer. Other features
designed to ensure data integrity in multimedia applications include Write
Streaming firmware that allows Grand Prix drives to write sequential data
to the disk continuously rather than in separate blocks. In multimedia
applications such as video editing, where data files tend to be long and
sequential, Grand Prix's Write Streaming firmware improves sequential
write performance.

MountainGate customers are impressed by the performance of the Grand Prix
drives and welcome them as an addition to their product line. According to
Edward Lee Rapp, executive vice president of production and design for Arc
Studios in New York, NY, "Grand Prix drives are top of the line. We ran
them through stringent testing in our studios and the drives performed
flawlessly." Arc Studios is a multimedia design and production company
that works extensively with high end video applications for CD-ROM
production, kiosks, motion picture special effects, and multimedia
presentations. Adds Rapp, "In our business, we look for high capacity
transportable storage that ensures the highest levels of image quality,
eliminating drop-outs and playback jitters. With complex video that
requires maximum throughput, the GrandPrix tested faster and was smoother
than our disk array."

Price and Availability

The Grand Prix family of drives is available for the PC, Macintosh, and
UNIX environments for a suggested list price of $3550 for the complete
VideoGig or IncreMeg system, including desktop docking station and
removable cartridge with an installed 4.2 GB Grand Prix hard drive. In
addition to the Grand Prix, MountainGate offers a diverse collection of
drives with varied levels of performance and functionality to support
their product lines. For sales and distribution information, contact
