Macromedia.com Sets New Standard For World Wide Web Sites

http://www.macromedia.com Is Central Resource For Graphic and Multimedia
Professionals

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--June 5, 1995--Macromedia (NASDAQ:MACR), the leader in
multimedia and digital arts software, today announced a new form of
Internet World Wide Web site. Unlike most "product message" oriented sites
On the Web, over 60% of macromedia.com is devoted to non-Macromedia media
content designed to make graphic artists and multimedia developers more
productive. Information in the site comes from all corners of the industry
and includes editorial from leading publications like NewMedia Magazine,
Red Herring, Multimedia Producer and Morph's Outpost. The site also
features in-depth market research and analysis, a KnowledgeWeb's industry
event calendar, a gallery of interactive examples, tips and tricks from
leading developers, world-wide jobs available/wanted postings and the
traditional product and support information.

"The Macromedia Web site is a great forum for developers to learn more
about multimedia and Macromedia's powerful authoring tools," said Megan
Wheeler, co-founder and creative director of ad hoc Interactive, winner of
the 1995 Invision Awards Best of Show for the title Passage to Vietnam.
"The developer community now has a must-see destination on the Web to
enhance their multimedia skills and knowledge."

"The Macromedia Web site provides the dynamic and compelling content that
all multimedia professionals and enthusiasts will find invaluable," said
Rich Landry, publisher of New Media.

Given the current backlog of publishers, market research firms, developers
and industry partners with content to post, macromedia.com is expected to
expand from nearly 400 HTML pages at launch to over 2000 pages during the
next 60 days. Macromedia's Web site business model is based on a barter
system where space on the site is exchanged for regularly up-dated content
and Super Hotlinks between sites. Super Hotlinks combine high impact
content with traditional text hot links to communicate more effectively.

"Macromedia.com is the new source and center for our industry partners and
our installed base of nearly 500,000 graphic artists and multimedia
developers," said Miles Walsh, Macromedia's vice president of marketing.
"Thanks to the expertise and efforts of our partners all over the world,
this site will grow and improve at an unprecedented rate."

In a related announcement, Macromedia and Netscape unveiled an agreement to
integrate Macromedia Director's multimedia playback engine into Netscape's
Navigator. World Wide Web pages are currently limited to text and static
graphics, while small sounds and video files must be downloaded and played
with shareware utilities. With the Macromedia/Netscape agreement, millions
of Netscape Navigator users will now be able to experience multimedia in a
Web page and the dynamic effect of multimedia documents. Because the
Director playback engine will be integrated into the Netscape Navigator,
it is completely transparent to the user. As the bandwidth of the Internet
continues to expand with breakthroughs such as cable modems, complete
multimedia titles created with Director will be seamlessly delivered over
the Internet, making the Internet an outlet for mainstream multimedia
title distribution. The Macromedia Web site will be limited with
Netscape's Web page, providing up-to-date information on the Director
multimedia playback software integration with Navigator.
