MOTOROLA COMPUTER GROUP ADDS NEW POWERSTACK ENTRIES TO ITS RISC PC AND
SERVER LINES

Systems Based On the PowerPC 603e and 133 MHz PowerPC 604 Microprocessors
Provide OEMs Systems Integrators and VARs with Expanded Price/Performance
Options

PC EXPO, NEW YORK, June 20, 1995--The Motorola Computer Group (MCG) today
extends its PowerStack offerings, based on PowerPC microprocessors. by
adding two new RISC PC systems and two new Series E workgroup servers.
These highly-integrated, cost-effective products make the enhanced
performance of the latest PowerPC microprocessors--the 100 MHz: PowerPC
603e and the 133 MHz PowerPC 604 microprocessors--available to MCG
customers.

"These new systems demonstrate the Motorola Computer Group's commitment to
continually and aggressively enhance its PowerStack product line," states
Karl Stoltze, vice president of marketing for MCG. "We're taking maximum
advantage of the PowerPC technology to offer these performance
improvements and furnish multiple price/performance levels that suit a
wide variety of customer applications."

The new PowerPC 603e microprocessor-based RISC PCs and servers nearly
double the performance of the previously introduced RISC PC 603-66 and
Series E603-66P counterparts. Thus, even at the entry-level price, the new
PowerStack systems offer outstanding floating point performance for
multimedia and workstation applications. With PowerStack Series I and
Series MP servers extending the product line to midrange departmental and
enterprise server environments, MCG customers have a broad range of
compatible system choices to implement client/server business solutions.
And because the PowerPC architecture provides binary compatibility of
software operating systems across PowerPC platforms, users can utilize the
same software applications from MCG's entry-level desktop systems to
enterprise-level servers, thus maintaining investments in software, tools
and training. Users can take advantage of having either IBM AIX 4.1 or
Microsoft Windows NT 3.51 operating systems preloaded on any PowerStack
system.

The PowerPC microprocessors used in the new systems operate at 33 to 50
percent higher clock speeds than previous versions. Additionally, the
PowerPC 603e microprocessor features a larger on-chip cache (increased
from 16 to 32 KB) and offers low-voltage operation. Both RISC PCs and
servers benefit from these two new members of the PowerPC microprocessor
family.

The Expanded PowerStack RISC PC Family

For desktop requirements, users now have additional choices in MCG's
Power-Stack RISC PC line. The new models include the RISC PC 603e-100 and
the RISC PC 604-133 products. The RISC PC 603e-100 offers
SPECint92/SPECfp92 estimated peak performance of 105/100. The 604-133
provides SPECint92/SPECfp92 estimated peak performance of 180/160.

Like all PowerStack RISC PCs, the new versions are available in both
desktop and mini-tower configurations. Users requiring even higher levels
of performance than currently available with the RISC PC 603e-100 can
easily upgrade to the RISC PC 604- 100, thus protecting their investment
in hardware and software.

The New PowerStack Series E Servers

The two new PowerStack servers include the Series E models 603e-100P and
the Series E 604-133P. The 603e-100P provides SPECint92/SPECfp92 estimated
peak performance of 105/ 100. The Series E 604-133P provides
SPECint92/SPECfp92 estimated peak performance of 180/160--a new reference
point in performance for an entry-level workgroup server.

The new PowerStack servers differ from previously introduced PowerStack
servers only in their processors and clock speed. For example, like all
PowerStack servers, the new Series E models make use of expansion modules
to accommodate a wide variety of SCSI and PCI (Peripheral Component
Interconnect) bus options, providing memory capacities as high as 256 MB
and internal disk capacity up to 36 GB. as well as RAID options. In
addition, the ability to perform remote diagnostics combined with
excellent performance and expandable and highly reliable disk storage
capacity make these compact servers ideally suited for general office
environments. Existing Series E server users can take advantage of PowerPC
technology by upgrading to the Series E 604-100P.

Availability

MCG sells its PowerStack RISC PCs and servers through commercial OEMs,
commercial distributors and VARs. As with all PowerStack product offerings
the new models are backed by a limited five-year warranty on parts and
labor for product shipped back to the MCG factory for repair.

The Series E 604-133P and the Series E 603e-100P will be available in
August. The desktop and mini-tower DT/MT RISC PC 604- 133 will be
available in July and the DT/MT RISC PC 603e-100 will be available in
August.

Additionally, MCG has reduced its list prices on the Series E 603-66P,
Series E 604-100P, RISC PC 603-66, and RISC PC 604-100, providing MCG
customers with one of the industry's most economical entry points for a
system based on the PowerPC microprocessor with either the AIX 4.1 or
Windows NT 3.51 operating system. The ability to upgrade to
higher-performance processors furnishes customers with investment
protection and the flexibility for future growth, making the systems
especially attractive, high-performance, entry-level choices.
