New CD-ROM Server runs native Netware 4.1, offers 56 GB capacity

New York, June 20, 1995 ... Legacy Storage Systems International Inc.
(Booth #2247) today announced SmartArray CD Server, a dedicated, scaleable
and expandable server incorporating run-time NetWare 4.1. Any user with
access privileges can use CD-ROM resources regardless of their location on
the network and without the requirement for additional drivers at the
local PC or workstation.

Designed to provide trouble-free enterprise-wide delivery of CD-ROM-based
information over FDDI, ethernet and token ring LANs, this new
high-capacity, high-performance CD-ROM server is fully compliant with
NetWare directory services and can run on Novell networks using NetWare
3.11 or higher. There are no additional load requirements on existing
servers. Network users can navigate large CD libraries using a simple
graphical interface; re-map CDs dynamically to a single drive letter, and
seamlessly run all applications requiring CDs.

The SmartArray CD Server features an Intel EISA/PCI system board, multiple
SCSI controllers, a fault-tolerant power system and can be expanded from
seven to 56 Quad-speed CD-ROM drives. The system's scaleability allows for
additional network interface cards, controllers, memory and other devices
such as CD-ROM jukeboxes to be added.

The new Legacy CD-ROM server supports IPX, NETBIOS, and TCP/IP transport
protocols, allowing DOS, Windows, Macintosh, UNIX and OS/2 clients access
to CD-ROM resources. SmartArray CD Servers are factory configured to
ensure that setup and maintenance is minimized, thereby allowing users to
simply plug it in and commence work.

The Legacy SmartArray CD Server can be complemented by DiscPort or DiscPort
Pro peripherals providing departmental local control over CD resources
while allowing the CDs to be shared enterprise wide. DiscPort and DiscPort
Pro use DiscView software for easy management and use of CD-ROMs. Users
see and access CD-ROMs as NetWare volumes. CDROMs are organized and
prepared for network access through SmartLaunch. This software feature
automatically manages the mounting and dismounting of individual CDs, logs
users in and out of file servers, maps drive letters and allows individual
CDs to appear as individual volumes or sub-directories under a single
NetWare volume.
