NEW IBM SOFTWARE, HARDWARE PRODUCTS EXPAND ACCESS TO PHOTO CD IMAGES

Ultimedia Services for AIX Brings Photo CD Images To Users Of RISC
System/6000 and Power Series Computers

NEW YORK, June 20--New IBM products, announced yesterday, will make it
easier than ever for IBM customers to work with high-quality pictures
using Kodak Digital Science Photo CD technology.

Visitors to IBM's booth at PC Expo will see demonstrations of new
multimedia products that support the Photo CD Image Pac file format:

* The Ultimedia Services product for AIX, IBM's UNIX operating system, will
read and display Photo CD images--including images stored on Pro Photo CD
master discs at the highest available resolution. AIX runs on IBM's
powerful RISC System/6000 (RS/6000) workstations. Ultimedia Services is an
optional package of multimedia tools for the AIX platform. A number of new
IBM RS/6000 and Power Series systems come with Ultimedia Services at no
extra cost.

* IBM's new line of Personal Computer Power Series computers will offer
customers options for multiple operating systems that support Photo CD
technology, including AIX Version 4 (through Ultimedia Services) and OS
2/Warp.

Both new products will make it easier than ever for IBM customers to use
pictures in their documents, multimedia programs and on-line
communications.

"We are delighted that IBM is expanding its support of Photo CD images with
its latest product releases," said Paul H. McAfee, Kodak's director of
worldwide Photo CD marketing. "Photo CD technology makes it easy and
affordable to work with high-quality images on computers, which is why the
Photo CD format has rapidly become an industry standard."

McAfee explained that dozens of popular software applications also read
Photo CD images.

"By supporting Photo CD playback with Ultimedia Services, IBM is helping
more customers take advantage of Photo CD technology," he said. "People
who run the AIX system on multimedia computers will be able to leverage
many special benefits from Photo CD images, for graphic-intensive needs
like multimedia authoring publishing, multimedia authoring, image archive
creation, and graphic design applications."

About Photo CD Technology

Launched in 1992, the original Photo CD master disc format enables
photographers to take standard 35 mm film pictures and have them scanned
onto Photo CD discs by a photofinisher or service bureau. An image user
can read a Photo CD master disc in practically any computer equipped with
a CDROM drive--virtually all of the 12 million CD-ROM drives sold in 1994
are Photo CD-compatible.

On a Photo CD master disc, the highest resolution level (2048 x 3072
pixels) captures virtually all the image data 35 mm film has to offer. Pro
Photo CD master discs offer an optional higher level of resolution (4096 x
6144 pixels) for larger film formats used by professional and commercial
photographers. A third format, Photo CD portfolio II discs, can store
digitally-originated images in the Photo CD Image Pac format, and can
contain other digital content such as text or audio.

Photo CD discs offer computer users several key benefits: high-quality
image scans at low cost; the multiple-resolution Image Pac format, which
makes it easy to work with an image in numerous applications; and
convenient storage or distribution of images on-disc.

In addition to using Photo CD images on computers, people also can view
them on television using a Kodak Digital Science Photo CD player (which
also plays audio CDs); Philips CD-I player; Panasonic/3DO R.E.A.L. player;
or the Sega Saturn player scheduled for U.S. release later this year.

TV playback offers an alternative to computer-based presentations and
displays. Sales and training professionals often use photo CD portfolio II
discs for distributed or traveling presentations, displayed on any TV
using a Kodak Digital Science Photo CD player.
