INTERPHASE SUPPLIES INDUSTRY'S ONLY PCI ATM ADAPTER CARD FOR NEW POWER
MACINTOSH 9500

--$650 ATM Adapter Card Makes ATM An Affordable Reality For the Desktop-

DALLAS, June 19, 1995 -- Interphase Corporation today announced that it
will supply PCI (Peripheral Component Interconnect) ATM (Asynchronous
Transfer Mode) adapter cards for the Power Macintosh 9500 also announced
today.

The Interphase 5515 PCI ATM 155 Mbps adapter card is priced at $650, making
ATM an affordable high-speed transmission medium for Apple's new Power
Macintosh systems which incorporate the industry standard PCI bus.
Interphase is currently the only company that will supply PCI ATM adapter
cards for the Power Macintosh 9500. The Interphase PCI adapters with MacOS
support are currently available on a limited basis and will be available
for widespread distribution within 60 days.

"ATM enables Macintosh users to access a new class of applications that
were not practical with other networking technologies," said Ken Restivo,
Interphase ATM product marketing manager. "ATM is the fastest-growing
network technology on the market today. It enables rapid movement of very
large, multi-megabyte color image files and full-motion video streams
seamlessly over local and wide area networks and across platforms."

"We are very pleased that Interphase is supporting the Power Macintosh
platform," said Howard Lee, senior vice president of Apple's Macintosh
Systems Division. "New product announcements from major PCI developers
like Interphase clearly reflect the strong support for the platform. More
importantly, customers will benefit when they are able to choose from a
wide variety of industry standard PCI cards to use in their Power Macs."

Restivo explained that applications requiring rapid movement of very large
data structures are well suited to use ATM with Apple's new Power
Macintosh systems. "For example, using ATM, a creative house would be able
to remotely transfer a video or large color image with a 155Mbps
connection. This rapid movement and access allows production under tight
deadlines, and at a much lower cost than other alternatives such as FDDI,"
Restivo explained. "Another application that is well suited for ATM on a
Macintosh involves multimedia servers for interactive training in an
education environment. Power Macintosh systems will have sufficient power
to present full-motion, large-screen, accelerated QuickTime video
conferencing. Interphase ATM adapters now support a network connection
with speeds high enough to service these video streams," he concluded.

The Interphase 5515 ATM adapter is designed for use in the emerging class
of PCI-based PC's, and will also support future Power Macintosh systems.
The adapter will be available over copper for $650 and fiber for $850. The
5515 implements ATM Forum UNI 3.0 for signaling, LAN Emulation compatible
with the latest ATM Forum standard, and supports AppleTalk and TCPM
traffic over ATM. The 5515 comes complete with drivers and graphical
diagnostic software for MacOS and supports an API (Application Programming
Interface), allowing software vendors to increase the functionality of
their applications by writing directly to the ATM media.
