InfoImaging Technologies Introduces 3D FAX Software

3D FAX Transmits Computer Files To Fax Machines or PCs Using Existing PC
Faxware, Cuts Transmission Time Up to 90%, Provides Security, Sends Color
pictures

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- A new PC software product that will revolutionize the
transmission of information by fax was introduced by InfoImaging
Technologies, Inc. 3D FAX encodes digital files as highly compressed and
uniquely formatted images which can be transmitted via fax at an order of
magnitude faster than conventional means. Along with the significant cost
savings from reduced fax transmission times, 3D FAX provides complete
error detection and recovery along with unique privacy and security
features -- all available from a user-friendly Windows application and
existing PC faxware.

3D FAX uses a proprietary data transformation technology called
"infointaging" that can place as much as 40 KBytes of compressed data on a
single page. This compressed data can be sent from a computer via fax card
or fax modem directly to another computer with fax capability, or to a fax
machine. When printed by a fax machine, the transmitted document or file
appears as a two dimensional black and white image referred to as an
"infoimage." The printed infoimage is simply scanned using an optical
flat-bed or inexpensive hand scanner into a computer. 3D FAX software then
restores the transmitted file to its original content and format and
automatically opens it in the software application in which it was
created.

"3D FAX can compress 30 pages or more of a typical document into a single
infoimage fax page," says Dr. Moshe (Moozy) Auron, Chairman and Chief
Scientist for InfoImaging Technologies, Inc. "That alone represents
considerable savings to the estimated $2.5 billion spent each year on fax
transmissions."

"But it is just the beginning. Because the revolutionary 3D FAX technology
can also be used to transmit executable files, documents with color
graphic images, even digital audio and video files, it becomes possible
and practical to send entire multi-media files in the form of 3D FAX
infoimages over regular telephone lines. This means an immediate and
profound improvement in speed, convenience and range over other current
forms of file transfer, from mail to conventional fax to modems."

In its prototype stage, 3D FAX was awarded a Gold Medal in the
Communications Software Division at the 1993 International Invention
Conference in Geneva. Six months later the prototype product was shown at
CeBIT 1994 and was designated the Best Utility Software. 3D FAX offers a
number of unprecedented benefits:

Save $$$: In a specific test case, a Word for Windows document consisting
of 43 pages was 3D FAXed in one and one-half pages of 3D FAX infoimage
output, saving about 30 minutes in telephone connect time. In just a few
uses, 3D FAX will pay for itself.

Privacy and Security: When a 3D FAX infoimage is received at a remote fax
machine site, it cannot be read by a casual observer. It must be
transformed back into an intelligible form through the use of the 3D FAX
Read Module. This provides privacy of faxes in offices, hotels and other
public places. This fundamental privacy can be enhanced via the 3D FAX
security option which locks an infoimage transmission with a password. The
time reduction and security features of 3D FAX provide an excellent
solution for faxing via cellular telephone.

Send and Store Computer Files on Paper: Computer programs, digital voice,
digitized music, test data -- anything which can be converted into a
digital file -- can be transformed by 3D FAX and printed via fax machine
or printer in highly compressed infoimage format. A 100 page user manual
can be provided for a customer on three to four pages of infoimage
output.

Color Fax: A fax sent with 3D FAX software can contain a color picture
which can be transformed at the receive end from the black and white
infoimage to the original color picture - thereby providing "color fax."

Avoid the Problems of Optical Character Recognition: 3D FAX captures the
specific data and format information of an application file. There is no
need for running sophisticated but error-prone and numerically unreliable
optical character recognition (OCR) programs on the 3D FAXed file. A scan
operation on a 3D FAXed document results in the original file, not an
OCR-processed text document which has to be checked and reformatted.

Built-in Error Correction: Whether printed on fax machine paper or sent
directly from computer fax card to computer fax card, 3D FAX incorporates
automatic error correction capabilities. A 3D FAXed file is either
received and corrected, if necessary, to 100% reliability or the 3D FAX
software will alert the user to the need for specific partial or complete
retransmission of the infoimage.

Easier to Use than Modems: 3D FAX is based upon internationally
standardized fax communications. The majority of users will find 3D FAX
easier to use than a data modem since it avoids the need for coordination
of configurations between the sending and receiving ends of the data
exchange.

Infoimaging technology offers a number of unique application opportunities.
For example, infoimaging can be used as an inexpensive identification
vehicle, or "smart card." A file containing color or black and white
photographs, fingerprints, signatures or other personal data can be
printed in unalterable infoimage form on paper, providing significant
savings over techniques involving electronics and plastic.

Likely customers for 3D FAX range from individual users who want to pass
multi-media material back and forth, to professional offices and
government agencies who need the transfer speed and security. Private
users will enjoy unprecedented functionality, while large organizations,
such as a manufacturing company, can expect to see significant savings on
fax and mail costs.

"3D FAX represents a fundamental breakthrough in the way office information
is transmitted," says Dr. Auron. "At a price starting at less than $100,
using standard phone lines and commonly used computer equipment, users can
enjoy the kind of powerful and sophisticated data communication and file
transfer that until now was available only to larger institutions over
expensive dedicated lines."

Products

3D FAX software is an easy-to-use software utility comprised of two
separate modules, 3D FAX Send and 3D FAX Read, which run in a Windows
environment. The 3D FAX Send module incorporates Windows point and click
selection of functions to select files tor infoimage processing,
transmission modes and options, printing an infoimage file, interfacing to
fax communication software and more. The 3D FAX Read module provides
functions for accessing and selecting a received file, scanning an
infoimage, unlocking a secured file via password, translating an infoimage
file to its original application content and format, and more.

To facilitate the widespread adoption and use of 3D FAX, Infoimaging
Technologies will offer, beginning in mid-April 1995, a "3D FAX Freeware"
version which provides full 3D FAX Read capability and a partial 3D FAX
Send capability for a new user at no charge. Most users will seek the full
performance features offered in the standard "3D FAX" or "3D FAX
Professional" versions of the software which are described below.

3D FAX Freeware: This product enables a user to transmit as many as four
pages of text to any other 3D FAX user. Use of the software at this level
will typically provide a 50% savings in fax transmission time. In
addition, 3D FAX Freeware provides the user with full 3D FAX Read
capability. As of April 11, 1995 3D FAX Freeware is available to any party
at no charge via the Internet. This freeware product may also be ordered
in North America at that time with a toll-free call to InfoImaging
Technologies, Inc. A shipping and handling fee of only $6.95 is charged in
this case. Or, 3D FAX Freeware can simply be copied from an associate who
has already acquired any one of the three available configurations of the
3D FAX software.

3D FAX Standard: With this, the standard version of the software, users may
transmit unlimited quantities of data (large documents, color pictures and
multi-media files, for example) and may batch multiple documents or other
files for 3D FAX transmission. This version of the software enables
selection of a slower but very reliable "send twice" mode for enhancing
transmission into noisy fax environments (such as a country with poor
telephone line performance). 3D FAX transmission savings in the range of
60 to 75% are typical for 3D FAX transmitted files using this version of
the software. 3D FAX Standard includes a user manual, a toll-free
technical support call and access to Internet and fax-on-demand based
support information. Price: $99 per package.

3D FAX Professional: The 3D FAX Professional package adds security using up
to an eight-character password, transmission of executable program files,
special optimization processing for color pictures and a fast transmission
option for 3D FAX transmission from PC fax to PC fax. Time and cost
savings of over 90% can be achieved. For example, a 2 MByte bitmapped file
of a multi-color logo was 3D FAXed in just four pages of infoimage data in
less than 10 minutes. 3D FAX Professional is priced at $199 including user
documentation, two free support calls and access to Internet and
fax-on-demand support information.

Site licenses for 3D FAX and 3D FAX Professional will be available for
large companies and organizations. Interested parties in North America may
order any of the versions of 3D FAX for delivery via a toll-free call to
(800) 966-1140 beginning April 11.
