Information Builders Announces FOCUS Report Server

New Product Automates Report Processing and Distribution Through E-Mail

New York, NY -- June 13, 1995 - Information Builders today announced FOCUS
Report Server, a LAN-based product that automates report processing and
distribution. The new product allows users to send whole reports or
designated parts of reports to local and remote users. Report Server also
allows users to schedule and partition report production to most
efficiently make use of server processing resources.

"The package exemplifies Information Builders' mission to offer production
level capabilities on the desktop. As report generation becomes
distributed throughout the enterprise, business analysts and managers
increasingly find themselves having to handle more administrative tasks
previously performed by the central IS organization," said Dave Feldstein,
Vice President of the Micro Products Division. "We developed FOCUS Report
Server because managers need tools that automate reporting tasks in a way
that offers the same functionality as enterprise production
environments."

FOCUS Report Server allows users to add intelligence to report distribution
by allowing report recipients to get all or a just a designated part of a
report, eliminating the need to send an entire report when just part of it
is appropriate.

FOCUS Report Server can distribute reports to the names and E-mail
addresses in an address book. The names and addresses can be associated
with the report's output for sending information just to those who require
it. Built-in intelligence can repaginate a partial report or use page
numbers from the complete version. Other useful options include mail
messages attached to the report, delivery receipts, and diagnostic
reports.

By consolidating report processing and distribution in the server, FOCUS
Report Server saves costs by letting an entire workgroup rely on one
workstation equipped with E-mail. The Report Server runs with native
Windows, NT, or Windows under OS/2. In the NT environment, the product can
take advantage of NT's multitasking capabilities, spawning multiple
reports or running multiple reports simultaneously.

A user can schedule reports to run once, at regular intervals, or regularly
for any period of time. By off-loading processing to the server, report
requests can be submitted without tying up the client machine for other
work. With its ability to schedule production for nighttime or weekends,
the Report Server conserves valuable resources: users can query the
mainframe during less expensive times or when it is more available.

Processing report requests centrally on a LAN server also controls access
to host resources by reducing the number of users directly accessing that
host at one time. It also eliminates the expense of installing high-speed
communication links at each client workstation on the LAN.

Enterprise-Wide Access and Distribution Power

FOCUS has interfaces to Sybase and Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2/2,
Teradata, Btrieve, ODBC, FOCUS, and 12 PC DBMSs. When used with
Information Builders' EDA/SQL software, FOCUS Report Server can access
more than 60 data file types on 35 hardware platforms. Reports can be
distributed via any E-mail that supports MAPI, VIM, or MHS; by direct
connection; or using EDA/Link. Data can be output in five different
formats, from comma delimited to RTF and the FOCUS Hold file format. Data
can also be replicated to six RDBMSs, 12 local databases, and via ODBC.

FOCUS Report Server is available immediately and is priced at $1,595. FOCUS
Reporter for Windows, which is $395 per copy, is required for each client.
Reporter runtimes are free when used with the developer version, FOCUS
Professional, priced at $3,495.
