Compulink Licenses ScanFix Image-Optimizer For LaserFiche NLM/Windows

LaserFiche will use Sequoia's Software to De-Skew, De-Speckle
Significant Improvements in OCR Realized

TORRANCE, California, June 9, 1995 -- Today Compulink Management Center and
Sequoia Data announced that LaserFiche for Windows will include Sequoia's
ScanFix software, allowing users to de-skew, de-speckle, and de-shade
images as they are scanned in. This will result in greatly improved
Optical Character Recognition accuracy, leading in turn to faster and more
accurate searches using LaserFiche's full-text search engine.

"LaserFiche has always been an ideal imaging product for service bureaus
and the legal market," said Chris Wacker, Vice-President of Marketing at
Compulink, "but many of our customers face third and fourth-generation
documents which are dirty or skewed. In addition, the number of faxed
documents that people wish to archive with LaserFiche has increased
tremendously. By incorporating ScanFix, we are making LaserFiche more
powerful. LaserFiche can now OCR and automatically index documents which
previously had to be manually indexed with our template database. The
difference has to be seen to be believed."

Starting with its version 3.0, Compulink will ship ScanFix Lite with
LaserFiche for Windows. Existing end users and resellers who already have
LaserFiche will be able to purchase and drop in either the ScanFix Lite or
ScanFix Professional image-enhancement filter at any time.

"De-skew, de-speckle and de-shade are just the beginning of what ScanFix
can do," said Dana Allen, President of Sequoia Data. "Our Professional
version allows advanced image-enhancement options such as character
completion to grow sparse dot matrix characters together, and
sand-and-fill to smooth out gaps in rough characters. For forms, ScanFix
registers the documents to within one-one hundredth of an inch, even if
the scan location varies by an inch. This greatly enhances zoning
accuracy. ScanFix can also remove horizontal and vertical lines, repairing
intersected text. It even will convert inverted text back to
black-on-white to improve OCR accuracy."

Some LaserFiche users like ScanFix so much they couldn't wait. "ScanFix
makes a big difference on our faxes and older documents," said Scott
Fenton, who heads the imaging project at CFI Proservice in Portland, OR.
"We've been using it for months. On some documents we saw OCR accuracy
double after using ScanFix. Now that LaserFiche seamlessly supports
ScanFix, our lives are going to be a lot easier."

LaserFiche document imaging has been selling since 1988, winning LAN
Magazine's 1994 Imaging Product of the Year Award. LaserFiche NLM is the
only client-server imaging solution on Novell NetWare that includes
full-text search and an intuitive, easy-to-use GUI. Its client-server
architecture minimizes network traffic and delivers better data integrity
and faster search performance. In addition, the full-text search engine
uses fuzzy logic to insure that users will find the documents they are
looking for.

LaserFiche software is priced from $495 for a stand-alone, and the
client/server network version ranges from $3,495 for an Entry Pack to
$44,995 for a 100-user Corporate Pack. The software is available through
authorized resellers and distributors worldwide. Compulink Management
Center, Inc., which develops and markets network document imaging
software, is also a Novell professional developer. Compulink is
headquartered at 370 S. Crenshaw Blvd., Suite E-106, Torrance, CA,
Telephone (310) 212-5465.

Sequoia Data Corporation is the industry pioneer in Image Optimization
tools. ScanFix won Imaging Magazine 's 1992 Product of the Year Award.
ScanFix will be available bundled in LaserFiche software, with a more
advanced version to be sold separately by Compulink. The powerful FormFix
forms processing package is available direct from Sequoia Data. Sequoia
Data is located at 433 Airport Blvd., Suite 414, Burlingame, CA, Telephone
(415) 696-8750.
