BROOKTROUT ANNOUNCES QUADRAFAX 2.0 FEATURING NEW WINDOWS-BASED FAX
BROADCAST CAPABILITY

Ideal for Corporate Department and Small Business Applications

Needham, Massachusetts -- June 12, 1995 -- Brooktrout Technology, Inc.
(NASDAQ: BRKT) a leading supplier of high-performance, high-quality fax
and voice messaging products, today announced a Windows-based fax
broadcast application for QuadraFax 2.0, the newest version of its
low-cost, easy-to-use turn-key fax and voice platform. The QuadraFax fax
broadcast application, developed by Shonut Probabilistic Solutions of
Hertzelia, Israel, allows users to send a common facsimile to many
different recipients automatically. The new fax broadcast capability saves
time and reduces the cost of fax broadcasts by eliminating the need to
manually resend faxes one-at-a-time or use costly outside service
bureaus.

QuadraFax 2.0, which will be demonstrated for the first time at the PC EXPO
trade show this month in New York, is ideal for corporate departments and
small businesses that want to cost-effectively enhance their customer
communications using facsimile and voice processing applications such as
fax-on-demand for literature dissemination. QuadraFax 2.0 includes a
complete fax-on-demand application with document password protection, a
same-call money-saving feature and enhanced international call support.
Fax broadcast is an optional application for QuadraFax 2.0.

"Every business today needs to communicate effectively, quickly and
efficiently." said Eric Giler, president of Brooktrout Technology. "Unlike
expensive and complex PC-based fax and voice processing systems, QuadraFax
2.0 is easy to use, requires no software programming, hardware integration
or assembly and is 75% less costly."

"QuadraFax is the simplest and least expensive way to implement fax
broadcast and fax-on-demand for most applications," commented Maury
Kaufman, managing partner of The Kaufman Group (Cherry Hill, NJ). "With
the Windows interface, end users, not specialists from the MIS department,
can implement professional, high quality applications."

The markets for the applications targeted by QuadraFax are growing rapidly.
Enhanced fax services, including fax on demand, fax broadcasting and fax
mail, are dominated today by service bureaus that provide services on a
price per unit basis. BIS Strategic Decisions (Norwell, MA), a leading fax
market research firm, estimates that enhanced fax service revenue totaled
$266 million in 1994, and is forecast to grow at 40 percent annually
through 1999. Fax Broadcast is the single largest service today with
annual revenue of approximately $226 Million.

"Fax broadcast has long been the largest enhanced fax application, but
prices are still high for general purpose communication," said Judy
Pirani, Director of the Image Communications Service at BIS. "QuadraFax,
with its simplicity and low price, is a great solution for many end users
who need to get information out quickly to a large audience."

Easy to Use, Low-Cost Platform

QuadraFax 2.0 is an integrated fax and voice processing platform which:

- Sends and receives faxes
- Records and plays-back voice prompts and messages
- Detects and interprets DTMF (TouchTone) signals
- Performs adaptive call progress to ensure worldwide dialing
  capability

The system includes two or four digital signal processor-based universal
ports for fax and voice processing, a 210MB hard disk for application
software and file storage (4,000 fax pages and two hours of voice prompts
and messages), and the CPU and operating system.

Application Software

QuadraFax's modular enhancement enables customers to add fax and voice
applications as needed. For example, QuadraFax 2.0 adds support for the
optional fax broadcast application; Version 1.0 released last March only
supported fax-on-demand for automated document delivery via fax. Current
users of Version 1.0 can receive a Version 2.0 upgrade at no charge.

Additional key features of QuadraFax's Fax Broadcast application include:

- Unlimited support for distribution lists with up to 1,000 numbers
per list (which can be downloaded from most Windows-based
  spreadsheets and database applications)
- Support for multiple simultaneous broadcasts
- Broadcast Scheduler that allows broadcasts to be postponed to take
advantage of lower evening communication rates
- Broadcast Activity Log that shows the results of each broadcast to
  confirm delivery of faxes

The Fax Broadcast application in QuadraFax 2.0's Windows-based software
simplifies configuration and management via a management port
communication link. Capabilities include:

- Creating faxes by downloading document files from Windows-based
applications such as word processing and desktop publishing
- Generating distribution lists by downloading files from
Windows-based applications such as database managers and
  spreadsheets
- Configuring the system with dialing instructions and other
  telephone functions

QuadraFax, including fax-on-demand is available to order at a price of
$2,995 for two-port systems and $3,995 for four-port systems through an
authorized network of distributors and resellers.. As a special
introductory promotion, Brooktrout is offering the new QuadraFax fax
broadcast application for free to anyone who purchases a QuadraFax system
by July 31, 1995. After July 31, the fax broadcast application will cost
$595 as an add-on to the QuadraFax system.
