AST's NEW MANHATTAN P5133 SERVER ON DISPLAY FOR THE FIRST TIME, DELIVERS
BLAZING PERFORMANCE, OPTIMAL SYSTEM DESIGN FOR LANs AND ENTERPRISE
APPLICATIONS

NEW YORK, PC EXPO, June 20, 1995 -- AST Computer is showcasing for the
first time its new Manhattan P5133 server, a speed demon utilizing Intel's
new 133 MHz Pentium processor. Designed to deliver the highest level of
server performance and offering the most sought-after features for
demanding server applications, the Manhattan P5133 server represents the
latest advance in AST's continuing commitment to the enterprise computing
environment. AST is exhibiting its complete product line in Booth #3304 at
PC Expo in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center today through Thursday.

Equipped with up to two of Intel's fastest Pentium processors and offering
state of the art storage and data handling subsystems, the AST Manhattan
P5133 server provides the sizzling I/O craved by the local area network
architect and administrator. At the same time, the dramatically increased
integer and floating point performance of the new 133 MHz Pentium CPU
offers an unparalleled capacity for server-based applications such as
client-server databases and on-line transaction processing.

Optimal speed for PCI

The Manhattan P5133 server's 133 MHz CPU clock speed represents the next
logical performance milestone in Pentium server architecture in line with
AST's popular 100 MHz Manhattan P5100 and 90 MHz Manhattan P5090 servers.
The 133MHz chip is ideal for server applications because it not only has a
fast internal clock speed for CPU performance, but a fast 66MHz external
clock speed for interfacing with system memory and the system's PCI bus.
The PCI bus-based peripherals such as disk controllers and network cards
therefore operate optimally, providing increased overall system
performance.

"Our new Manhattan P5133 server is the logical next step in server
performance beyond our 100 MHz Manhattan P5100 system. With the P5133 and
all the other high-performance servers in the Manhattan family, AST can
offer customers a fully optimized solution with the right level of
performance for every server implementation," said AST Server Division
vice president and general manager, Larry Fortmuller. "This is the latest
of many server solutions to come from AST, all of which will reinforce our
commitment to providing leadership in enterprise computing."

Performance and reliability

All Manhattan P5133 servers are dual-Pentium processor ready and ship
loaded with 32 MB of error correcting code (ECC) memory and a generous
512KB second-level cache. In addition to the base model, the Manhattan
P5133 is available in two configurations, offering the network architect a
wide range of customization options for every network's particular needs.
The Model 6003AE features three 2GB hard drives and a PCI-based dual
channel disk array controller, while the Model 12003AE boasts three 4 GB
hard drives and the same array controller. With three drives each (two for
storage and one for maintaining parity), both models can be configured for
the popular RAID level 5 storage capability for additional fault
resiliency.

The Manhattan P5133 will be available through AST's reseller channel
beginning in August.

To ensure compatibility, the Manhattan P5133 server was designed to support
all leading network operating systems, including Novell NetWare, Microsoft
Windows NT, IBM OS/2, SCO UNIX, Banyan Vines and SunSoft Solaris. Further,
AST provides a number of advanced network management tools to ensure that
the network operates reliably, and with the highest degree of
availability.

Informa to the rescue

Network administrators will welcome AST's Informa software, a CD-ROM-based
multivendor technical database containing information and tech bulletins
on AST products as well as products from hundreds of other vendors.
Informa also contains news analysis and opinion from leading industry
publications and a rich collection of books, newsletters and industry
journals such as Exploring Windows NT, the LAN Protocol Handbook and the
NetWare Supervisor's Guide. With more than 500 fully indexed and
searchable megabytes of critical data, or more than 70,000 documents,
Informa is the ideal data source for administrators and supervisors of
complex network environments.

An Informa sampler is shipped at no additional charge with every Manhattan
server and is available thereafter on a subscription basis. Informa,
updated quarterly, is priced at $295 per year.

Percepta for a quick look and fast resolution

AST's Percepta Server Manager is an easy-to-use pictorial-based server
management tool which is included with all AST Manhattan servers at no
additional charge. It provides a "picture-at-a-glance" of server
configuration and performance for early warning and fast resolution of
server configuration and utilization problems. Percepta can be implemented
as a standalone utility or installed as a "snap-in" to Novell NMS.
Percepta also is compatible with Windows NT operating environment.

AST makes housecalls

For mission critical networks requiring the highest level of availability
and reliability, AST offers the option of Guardian Care, a four-hour
on-site server support program that is available 24 hours a day, 365 days
a year. One phone call immediately summons one of many highly qualified
technicians who are not only Certified NetWare Engineers and fully trained
on AST hardware and related hardware and software peripherals, but also
are fully trained on the individual operating system of their Guardian
customer.

In addition, AST backs its servers with a three-year on-site warranty
program, a 24 hours per day/7 days a week telephone "hot" line, AST
InfoFax and AST On-Line! bulletin board service for further technical
reference. AST also operates a forum on the CompuServe on line service for
direct communication with AST technicians and other users.
