New Printer Driver from Adobe Systems Sets New Standards for PostScript
Printing From Windows

Adobe's Newst Windows Printer Driver Features an Advanced User Interface,
Increased Performance and Added Capabilities

Mountain View, Calif., (June 19, 1995) (Nasdaq:ADBE)--Adobe Systems
Incorporated, the leading provider of high-quality printing solutions,
today announced the availability of the Adobe Printer Driver version 3.0.1
for Windows 3.1. Designed for use with PostScript printers, the new
printer driver, called AdobePS 3, offers key benefits to end users and
printer developers alike. AdobePS 3 is included with printer devices from
virtually every major Adobe PostScript software licensee and is also
available directly from Adobe.

The AdobePS 3 driver sports a completely redesigned user interface that is
intuitive and easy to use. The new driver provides end users with desktop
control of the specific functions and features of their PostScript
printer, which are not directly accessible from the Windows environment.
Additionally, the driver's unique plug-in architecture allows printer
developers to quickly and easily customize the new driver to suit their
particular products and applications. By customizing the AdobePS 3 driver,
printer developers can deliver products to market faster by avoiding the
time and expense of building custom drivers.

"With our new printer driver, end users benefit in several ways," said
Torey Bruno, driver program manager at Adobe Systems. "First of all, the
new user interface is really easy to use. It's intuitive and
straightforward. Secondly, it provides access to new features that add
value to all Postscript Level 2 printers. Lastly, the driver improves
printer performance by producing the cleanest and most efficient
PostScript code of any printer driver available. Since Adobe invented the
PostScript language and leads its development, we're in the best position
to optimize our drivers to reflect this knowledge."

A printer driver is a special software module in a computer system used to
print a document or job to a PostScript printer. When an end user hits the
PRINT key, the printer driver automatically generates a PostScript
language file that electronically describes how the page should be
printed. In short, this file instructs the printer how to lay the pixels,
or dots, of the document onto a page. The printer driver also lets end
users control printer-specific features such as paper trays and the number
of copies to print.

Features and Benefits

Enhanced Performance: The Adobe Printer Driver for Windows improves printer
performance in two ways. First, the driver creates very compact and
efficient PostScript language output, which translates into faster
printing and enhanced productivity. Second, it takes advantage of
important Adobe PostScript Level 2 features when using a Level 2-based
printer. These include compression of bitmapped images, binary file
transfers and enhanced Level 2 language operators.

n-up Printing: The Adobe Printer Driver can condense output by printing
2,4,6,9 or 16 pages onto a single sheet of paper. This feature speeds and
simplifies previews and test printing, and also conserves paper.

Watermarks: Watermarks are typically words or phrases that appear behind
the text or graphics on a page, such as "Draft" or "Confidential." Adobe's
new driver provides tremendous flexibility in defining the watermarks to
be imaged.

Improved font-handling capabilities: The AdobePS 3 driver lets users print
any combination of Type I and TrueType fonts to any PostScript printer.

System Requirements

The AdobePS 3 driver works with any IBM PC-compatible computer running
Windows 3.1 and any Adobe PostScript printer connected via serial,
standard Centronics, bi-directional Centronics or network.

Availability

The AdobePS 3 driver is included with many new Adobe PostScript printers.
Additionally, the driver can be downloaded from a printer vendor's
bulletin board, Compuserve account or World Wide Web site. The AdobePS 3
driver is also available directly from Adobe for $24.95. Interested
customers should call Adobe at 1-800-83-FONTS.
