ADAPTEC ANNOUNCES FIRST ACCELERATOR KIT FOR APPLE PCI POWER MACINTOSH

Company Announces Commitment to Provide Macintosh Users Adaptec's
Award-winning Technology

NEW YORK, June 19, 1995--Adaptec (NASDAQ:ADPT), a leader in input/output
(I/O) technology, today announced it will market a Macintosh version of
its popular PCI SCSI Master host adapter, the AHA-2940W.

The AHA-2940W for the Macintosh is a Fast and Wide SCSI-2 accelerator card
for connecting SCSI-2 peripherals to the Power Macintosh 9500. It has a
SCSI transfer rate of 20Mbytes/second, a substantial performance
enhancement over standard Macintosh SCSI. Adaptec's add-in I/O technology
significantly improves performance of Power Macintosh applications that
require the transfer of large amounts of data such as realtime video
capture, digital imaging, pre-press, multimedia and databases.

"This accelerator card is the first of Adaptec's PCI products targeted for
the Macintosh market," said F. Grant Saviers, president and COO of
Adaptec. "Our strategic commitment to the Macintosh market will leverage
our semiconductor and software core competencies to provide Power
Macintosh users with additional high performance I/O and networking
solutions."

With a transfer rate of 133Mbytes/sec, PCI's additional bandwidth
outperforms the NuBus standard of 33Mbytes/sec on previous Macintosh
systems. The PCI local bus is currently one of the fastest ways to pass
data between the CPU and system peripherals such as disk drives, RAID
arrays and optical storage systems.

"Adaptec is excited to enter the Macintosh market with a powerful I/O
solution for desktops and servers," said John Hamm, vice president and
general manager of the Enterprise Computing business unit at Adaptec,
Inc.

"For years, Macintosh users have utilized digital video, pre-press and
multimedia applications that require high speed access to data and system
peripherals. As a leader in I/O technology and one of the original authors
of the PCI specification, we are confident we can deliver a new level of
performance and flexibility to the Power Macintosh market."

"We are pleased that Adaptec is supporting the next generation Power
Macintosh," said Howard Lee, senior vice president of Apple's Macintosh
Systems Division. "New product announcements from major PCI developers
like Adaptec clearly reflect the strong support for the Power Macintosh
platform. More importantly, customers will benefit when they are able to
choose from a wide variety of industry standard PCI cards to use in their
Power Macs."

Maximum Performance and Flexibility for PCI Power Macintosh Applications

Adaptec's AHA-2940W for the Macintosh is PCI 2.0 (Peripheral Component
Interconnect) and SCSI Manager 4.3 compliant, so end users are assured
off-the-shelf SCSI peripherals are completely compatible. The accelerator
card offers high performance and connectivity for up to 15 different SCSI
devices.

It supports data transfer rates up to 20Mbytes/sec on the SCSI bus and up
to 133Mbytes/sec on the PCI bus. The accelerator is powered by Adaptec's
market-proven PhaseEngine RISC processor to optimize resource utilization
and provide fast and reliable response times.

Advanced features include support for multitasking operations such as
scatter/gather, disconnect/connect, and tagged command queuing. When
comparing I/O SCSI implementations, Adaptec's solution provides a clear
performance advantage for applications requiring high-speed I/O.

Flexibility

Adaptec's accelerator for the Power Macintosh 9500 is a 16-bit accelerator,
which provides support for Fast and Wide SCSI devices. It simultaneously
supports SCSI-1, SCSI-2 and Fast and Wide SCSI-2 peripherals without any
performance degradation to the 16-bit devices. By supporting up to 15
unique SCSI IDs, Adaptec has doubled the connectivity offered with Fast
SCSI-2. Full featured SCSI utility software is provided in the kit that
allows users to format and partition SCSI hard drives, optical and
removable drives, and manage a variety of other peripherals.

Pricing and Availability

The AHA-2940W for the Power Macintosh retail kit will have a manufacturer's
suggested retail price of $349. The kit includes the accelerator card,
user guide, two internal cables (50 pin and 68 pin), and a 68 to 50 pin
adapter. Also included in the kit will be Control Panel software for
configuration, and formatting utility software for customizing your
system.

The kits will be available in August 1995 from Adaptec's worldwide
distributors.

Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT) designs, manufactures and markets IOware
product solutions to eliminate performance bottlenecks between
microcomputers, networks, and peripherals. Solutions range from simple
connectivity products for single-user and small office desktops, to
intelligent subsystem, high performance SCSI, RAID and ATM products for
enterprise-wide computing and networked environments. Adaptec I/O
solutions are incorporated into the products of virtually all the major
computer and peripheral manufacturers around the world.

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Milpitas, Calif., Adaptec is a
recognized market leader in high performance I/O technology. Adaptec
