------------------ Quest FE 0.92 Beta ------------------

! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! NOTICE ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
This is a beta release and as such does not provide any
guarantees as to the performance of this software. Use
this program at your own risk. There...now go make some
neet-o maps for Quake so you can kill in style! :^)

-------------------- Author's Notes ---------------------
Quest FE is a Windows front end written to work with Quest
v2.1 and higher. Quest 2 is written by Alexander Malmberg
<martin.malmberg@helsingborg.mail.telia.com>. Any
questions, comments or bug reports concerning Quest should
be directed to him. Correspondence concerning Quest FE
should be directed to Bron Davies <brono@tracy.com>.

------------------------ Profiles -----------------------
This file is some quick documentation on how profiles
work. If you have any questions on how it works after
reading this you can send me an e-mail and I can ignore
you. First: Why Profiles?

- Why?
Well, Quest originally didn't switch you to the settings
you wanted to use for a given map which you had opened up.
This meant that you would have to edit the QUEST.CFG
before you started Quest every time. (!) Not terribly
convenient. The Front End was designed to help remedy
this problem with a nice interface. To make this even
easier, I have created profiles to allow you to switch
between sets of settings that you use often on the fly.

- How does it work?
This doesn't mean that you can do that while Quest is
running. Quest as of now doesn't even support switching
between profiles while it's running but we shall see
(Alex?). Profiles are saved however in CFG files that
look just like the QUEST.CFG but are named by the Front
End as 'P0.CFG', 'P1.CFG', 'P2.CFG' and so forth. When
the Front End starts up Quest it tells it what profile
you are running. Quest then writes the profile name into
the maps that you open with it. When you open a map with
Quest FE the same effect happens but your map will be
opened with the profile that is written into the map file.
If you don't have Quest FE installed then profiles are
going to act a little bit differently so see the
documentation included with the version of Quest you are
running. Profiles will always work with Quest FE no matter
what version of Quest you have installed because Quest FE
writes your default profile into the QUEST.CFG before
launching Quest. Please note that you must open your maps
with Quest FE in order for this to work. This is equivelant
to checking the 'Associate MAP files with Quest' box in the
Quest FE window. You can then double-click the map you want
to open and Quest FE will start Quest with the profile that
is found in the MAP file. If it doesn't find a profile in
the map then it will load your default profile.

- Using Profiles
If you notice next to the profile name listbox there is a
little arrow. Click on this to get the profiles menu.
You can click 'NEW' to make a new profile, 'DELETE' to
delete the current profile, 'SAVE' to save your changes to
the current profile, or 'DEFAULT' to set the default profile
to the current one showing. The new profile dialog also
allows you to set the new profile as the default one or to
use an existing CFG file for the settings in the new profile.
The settings in the file you select in this option will be
copied into the profile CFG that will be used and the file
you selected will be ignored after that. When you delete
profiles, the record of the profile is deleted but not the
actual CFG file that was used for it. This is handy for
backwards compatibility. Your old maps that were previously
using that profile will still load with those settings so
long as the profile CFG file exists. After loading it once
though, Quest should overwrite the profile defined in the
MAP file with the new one. If you want to convert your old
maps that were made *without* profiles then set your default
profile in Quest FE to the profile you want to use for each
map, open your old maps with Quest FE and save them again.
The 'Use Profiles' checkbox is for versions of Quest older
than 2.26. These older versions hate it when the line
'profile xyz' is in the QUEST.CFG and won't load. Your
profile settings will still work effectively if you are going
to use an older version but this setting will help prevent
possible bugs with older versions that don't support this
feature.

- "Features" :^)
* No matter what your default profile is set to, Quest FE will
use the profile that is defined in the MAP file when that map
is opened with Quest FE.

* Once you are in Quest, you are using your default profile or
the profile that you selected before launching Quest. You
cannot change profiles at this point no matter what. Until
Quest supports changing profiles while running - this is how
it's gonna be.

* Don't be fooled by the controls in Quest FE. Quest FE does
not save every last setting into each profile. The settings
that are NOT profile dependant are:
- All file backup settings
- The Quest commandline
- Video driver to load (all the other video settings are)
- Associate map files with Quest
All the other settings will be saved with each profile you create.

* One more thing: If you decide you want to switch to a different
version of Quest or in other words change the path in the
'commandline' field, you will magically lose ALL of your profiles.
To prevent this, you need to manually copy all of your profile CFG
files from the original Quest directory to the new one. I may add
functionality to account for this in the future but who knows.
