Description of the Modification
-------------------------------

Don't you just hate it when you are walking around a level, Rocket Launcher
in hand, thinking you had killed all the larger monsters, then you round a
dark corner and run straight into a Shambler, in all his disgusting glory?
Well, now with Die Shambler! You don't have to worry about that annoying
feature of the game that is the Shambler's half damage from Rocket Launcher
rule. I belive this is due to it's rather tough skin. I have modified the
code of the Shambler so that it will now take ten times the normal damage
from a Rocket, without changing the rocket's strength or blast radius.
With this patch, where is used to take 5-7 Rocket's to take down a Shambler,
it can now be achieved with only one.. The Shambler will go down in all
it's Gibulis Glory <grin>. There are also some new death messages, rather
taunting ones too, if you get killed by the one monster this patch gives
you an unfair advantage over.

Please note that this is my first attempt at Quake-C so, please don't write
to me telling me how lame it is.. I know, i know.. But my next one will be
better (i hope <grin>)..

Known bugs
----------

*** I know that it works fine for Rockets.. But i am not so sure about
grenades.. I will have to look into this, tell me if it works!

*** What else could go wrong with something this simple <grin>.

How to Install the Modification
-------------------------------

This is really very simple.. And if you have installed a Quake-C Mod before
then you should skip this section.

Unzip the Die Shambler! archive into a directory under your Quake directory
called "shamdie". Then execute Quake with the following parameters:

              Quake.exe -game shamdie

If you have not installed the mod into the directory called "shamdie" then
you must point the -game parameter to where you do have it installed.

Revision History
----------------

         First release.

18/8/97:
         version 1.01
Added some nice little taunts to the Death Messages for when
players get killed by a Shambler.

20/8/97:
         version 1.02
Changed the README.TXT into the Official format. As you see it
         now.

Technical Details
-----------------

Nothing really technical about it.. If you want to have a look at the
source, then open up the Zip included in the distribution archive called
"source.zip".

Author Information
------------------

Hmm.. I live in Sydney, Australia. Funily enough, the town i live in is
called Quakers Hill (i am not kidding), so i thought it was only fitting
that i should try Quake, and i loved it.. I have had no life ever since :)

This is my first Quake-C Modification, my next will be a Combo Battle Patch,
this will contain new versions of the existing weapons, some nice little
escape features and whatever else i can think up.. It will be for Single
Player primarily, but will also be fun for DM.

Copyright and Distribution Permissions
--------------------------------------

You can use the source for this Modification in your own patches, as long
as you tell me first and it can't be some sort of commercial venture.. Also,
if my source is used, i want updates of the latest version of your Mod. I
don't think that is too much to ask :)

Availability
------------

You can get this patch from the normal places:

ftp.cdrom.com
The Quake-C archive (if they put it in).
By sending e-mail to me at nerd@zip.com.au and asking for it.
