I. Introduction

For some time I have been the owner of a legal and full version
of the game-masterpiece Duke Nukem 3D. After playing it for some
time I got bored (yes it IS true) and started to poke around the
game's CD. I then found the directory of 'Goodies' and installed
the tools Build and Editart. Since then I am a fan of creating my
own Duke Nukem levels.

My idea for this project was to create an episode for Duke3d inspired
by one of the first shoot-em-up games, Wolfenstein 3D.
During the work I realized that I could not do this all alone.
I then decided to start with a 'simple' TC-level. Hopefully some of
you like this level and will help me with the creation of more levels
in the future.

Now, here it is, the first TC-level for Duke3d inspired by Wolfenstein
3D, the game from ID software.
New textures, new sounds, new enemies and a lot of details from Wolfenstein.

It was developed and run with good results on a PC with AMDK5 PR133
(appr. Pentium 133), 32 Mbyte of RAM and MACH64 with 1Mbyte.
I allways use 800x600 and maximum screensize.

II. Installation:

You must have Duke Nukem 3D version 1.4 or higher. This means that
you must have the Atomic Edition, or the original Duke Nukem 3D
game (1.3D) with the Plutonium Pak upgrade. Duke Nukem 3D can be
obtained from 3D Realms Software (http://www.3DREALMS.com).
Wolf 2 Duke, The Escape from Wolfenstein was not created nor is it
supported by 3D Realms or ID software.

This package (w2d_103.zip) should contain the following files:

w2d_103.txt (Template file)
readme.txt (this file)
w2d.bat
w2dgame.con
w2d.grp

Simply copy or extract these files into your DUKE3D directory.

To run The Escape from Wolfenstein, type W2D at the DOS prompt and hit enter.
That's all there is to it.
This package will not interfere with your other duke levels or the original game.
To uninstall, simply delete the files from your duke3d directory.

III. Playing the Game

This is not a normal Duke Nukem level. There is NOT a ton of
ammo and health. You must try and survive with a minimum of resources
and you will need to really search to find health, weapons or ammo.
The object of the game is to escape from the castle Wolfenstein.

V. Design Notes:

Work on this level began in October of 1997.
I have worked on and off until January -98. Most of the work with
the first versions was made during the nights at christmas time.

* * *

The artwork and sounds in this level are a combination of stuff
lifted directly from the game Wolf3d with the help of WolfEdit
and WolfSND and stuff I created myself.
The artwork is a little rough compared to Duke's original but I had
to do it this way since I don't have time to edit all the individual
graphic-files. It may be better in the future.

If you would like to add on or make modifications to this level,
please contact me so that we can work together. I am planning to
keep upgrading the package so please let me know if you want to be
a part of future versions. If you make modifications, please contact
me rather than distributing them so that there will be only one
"official" version.

Well, that's all. I hope you enjoy Wolf 2 Duke, The escape from Wolfenstein.
Please send me E-Mail with your comments or suggestions.

VII Make your own w2d map

How to make your own Wolf 2 Duke level:

* Extract the w2d zip file to your duke3d-directory (you allready did that
  when you tried the TC)
* Backup any old tiles***.art
* Run kextract w2d.grp *.* in your duke3d directory
* If you want the 'wolf' music to your user-level: backup or rename your
  dethtoll.mid and rename wolf3d.mid to dethtoll.mid
* You can now build your own w2d level with the graphics, sounds music etc.
* To run your level start duke like this >> DUKE3D /xw2dgame.con -map filename
This will launch duke3d with the correct confiles and your map (filename.map)
