The Dethpak

Well, here it is finally! The second edition of the Dethmatch Series. 
My first edition, entitled "Dethmtch.zip", became an overnite success. 
There were some of you, however, that were less than thrilled with the 
textures in D5M1, and others just didn't think that Balcony.map was a 
very good level structurally, no matter how nicely I had converted it. 
Even I felt that Shdwdth.map was a little too small.

There are only two holdover levels here, Superdk.map and Ledges2.map, 
and I have completely revamped both: As good as they were, believe me 
when I tell you that they are now far better.

The two newest installments are Suprfrag.map and Danzig04.map. Suprfrag 
is a remake of level one of the DMseries.wad, which was a staple on 
San Fransisco's Dwango when it was in its heydey. Danzig04 is Danzig2.wad, 
map 14. The Danzig series is perhaps the greatest DM series ever created, 
and I took this conversion very seriously. This is my Opus. At the 
expense of modesty, I'll say that it could be one of the finest Dukematch 
Maps ever made. I'll let you decide the truth of that statement.

I've noticed that playing these maps with newbies on multiplayer sites 
like Kali can be a chore. They wonder "where the superhealth is", and 
"why aren't there any secrets?". They have played so many poorly designed 
levels with their overstocked armor and health modifiers, and they seem 
far more concerned with finding a good camping site than they are with 
learning to use their mouse to aim the shotgun. Because of this they 
get fragged mercilessly, and never improve. It's a bummer. All we can 
do as the wily vets we are is try to nurse them through these habits. 
Talk to them a little, let them know how they have gone astray.

The levels in this pak are high frag count, skill based maps. The 
tension when playing them is palpable. They are designed as perfect 
forums in which to display skill, as well as acquire it. The architecture 
is better than average, but is not the emphasis. They make use of all 
the functionality of the build engine, but never at the expense of in 
your face carnage.
