Quake macros by Tom McKeown.

Hands up all those who regularly use the message mode in Quake.
Oh, so few! The reason for this is probably that most people cant
type fast enough to get an insult out before theyre gibbed.
Doom and Doom 2 got around this problem by having pre-typed phrases
called macros. Simply by pressing T to get to the message mode and
pressing Alt and a number the message was automatically sent to your
fellow Deathmatchers. So why wasnt this included in Quake I hear
you scream. Well it is in a roundabout way and here is how you can
do it:-

1) Place the autoexec.cfg file in your ..\Quake\ID1 directory.
Alternatively paste its contents into your existing autoexec.cfg.
2) Copy the macro files into the ..\Quake\ID1 directory.
(Only your computer needs these files.)
3) Play multiplayer Quake. Use Q,W,E and R to select a category
of macro and then use Y,U,I,O and P to say a phrase in that
category. The T key is left over to access the message mode
so you can still type in messages manually.

My advice is to look at the macro files with a text editor such
as notepad. You should then see how easaly you can personalize
your macros, especially since I have left mine fairly tame for
distribution. The keywords to look out for are:-

Echo - places a message on your screen, used to show which
		macro category is in use.
Say - sends a message to all players
Say_team - sends a message to players in your team only.
Teams are defined by the color of peoples pants.

Other console commands can be included in the macros. For instance
in macro_4.cfg the P key is bound to say "smile", change your field
of view to 120 degrees just like a good camera, take a photo and
revert back to 90 degrees. Others that "might" be useful include
Kill when losing two frags is better than giving someone else a
frag (perhaps in a team game?), and my personal favorite using a
chain of "color # #; wait;" commands to cycle your color scheme.
Above all have fun. :-)
