Picardy 3 HTML Editor for OS/2

Introduction

This Program allows you to more easily write and edit documents for use on
the World Wide Web. This can of course be done with a normal text editing
program, but this program makes it much easier by providing buttons, menus,
list boxes and other features that do all work for you. This way you don't
need to remember all the different markings for the document.

Currently this program supports all the features of HTML 2.0 Specifications,
and most of the HTML 3.0 Specifications. Since HTML 3.0 is not yet official
not all features are necessarily supported. The support for Forms and
Tables is limited and doesn't follow along with the way other things are
added. These are only cascading menu items. All features are there but you
will need to know more about using these than the other features. Sample
html documents are provided to give you an idea of how these work. They
differ in that things like Images and Links are more user friendly. A future
version will make these user friendly as well.

This program was created using VisPro REXX. This is a very easy environ-
ment to program in and it does a lot of the coding for you. VisPro REXX is
published by HockWare. They have a web site with a demo of the program
on it if anyone is interested.

System Requirements

The requirements for this are very minimal. You mainly just need to be able
to run OS/2 Warp on you computer to use this program. This has not been
tried with and earlier versions of OS/2 so if it doesn't work, I'm sorry. Since
VisPro REXX can be run with OS/2 2.x I assume this will work as well. I am
using a 386/25 Laptop with 8MB of RAM and a 126MB HD running OS/2
Warp, so it definitely doesn't require much in the way of hardware. As for
software you MUST have REXX installed to run this program. If you don't
use Selective Install to install it BEFORE trying to run this program. I don't
know what will happen if you try this so You Have Been Warned.

Included Files

The files that should be included in this zip file are:
                        Picardy3.exe: The program
                        Picardy3.ico: The program icon
                        Picardy3.txt: This file
Picardy3.htm an html document describing the
basics of the program and HTML
                                          markup.
                        Picardy3.hst: Program History of versions
A future release will include sample .htm files
                        describing Forms and Tables.

Installation
This has been made much easier with version 0.58. First if you have
or got this program on disk move the files to a temp directory on your
hard drive then run the "pic3inst.exe" program. If you downloaded
it first Unzip the archive into a temp directory then simply double
click on or run the "pic3inst.exe" program included in this archive.
You will have the option of putting a folder with the program on the
desktop. After installation, if you don't have it on disk, delete the
installation program from the temp directory (a copy was placed in
the Picardy3 directory). If you want you can also put this location
as your working directory. Finally if you want you can add this
directory to your path in your config.sys file. This is not necessary
so if you are leary about touching this file, Don't. When you start
Picardy 3 for the first time set the options and the Web Browser you
want to use to test files.

Removal
You can also remove the Program from the desktop and entirely from
your system. First move the "pic3inst.exe" file out of the Picardy3
directory or if you have the program on disk just run the program
from there, then simply type the location of the "Picardy3" DIRECTORY
and click on remove. You will be asked if you want to delete the files.
WARNING: this will delete EVERYTHING in the Picardy3 directory
so if there is anything you want to keep make sure to remove it from
that directory before running the Removal. You will have the
opportunity to cancel the removal at this time if you need to do this.

Things to Remember - Basic Program Usage and HTML

For more information please see the file Picardy3.htm. It is best viewed
with a Web Browser. If you have set up a browser in Picardy 3 to test
files with then just open Picardy3.htm in Picardy 3 and click on "Test".

To view a document you MUST save it first. There is a "SAVE" button
next to the "Test" button for ease in doing this. You will receive a
warning if you haven't saved it at all and you will have to go back and
save it. If it does have a filename and you have made changes you will
also receive a warning that the changes will not be shown. Here you
have the option of going back and saving it or loading it anyway. You
can leave your web browser open and continue editing. To view the
changes just save them and Reload the document on your web browser.
DO NOT hit test again this will open another instance of your browser,
if possible.
