CHANGES.TXT FILE FOR CLIPBOARD EXTENDER 3.1

See README.TXT for information regarding installation.
See CLIPEXT.WRI for information regarding usage of Clipboard Extender

This file is intended to provide a description of some of the changes to
versions 2.2 and greater.

The following applies to version 2.21:

* The most noticeable change is that Clipboard Extender will now open and save
files in the clipboard format (.clp). This includes clipbook pages saved by
  Windows for Workgroups Clipbook program.

NOTE: For Clipboard Extender to open a.clp file, it MUST contain text.
Clipboard Extender will NOT open a .clp file that contains picture data.

* Clipboard Extender now distinguishes between a file that has been opened and
a file that has been saved and maintains each name separately in memory.
What does this mean and what is its advantage? Well, it means that you can
open multiple files and save or append the data from each of those files to
a single, different file without having to re-specify the name of the save
  file each time.

* Clipboard Extender will display text using the same text formats that Windows'
Clipboard Viewer uses. These formats are Text, for most Windows-based apps,
and OEM Text, for most DOS-based apps.

The following bugs were fixed:

- With Stay On Top active, Clipboard Extender could be positioned on the
screen so that it covered the About box's OK button, preventing the user
from being able to close the box. Clipboard Extender will now never cover
any part of the About box, even when the Stay On Top feature is active.

- When the clipboard's contents were deleted from the Windows Clipboard Viewer
program, Clipboard Extender failed to also delete its display of the text,
which was then being placed right back in the clipboard the next time text
  was copied.

- If the clipboard contained more than 30k of text when Clipboard Extender was
started, a message box was continously repeated until the clipboard's
contents were deleted or reduced to less than 30k. This was causing confusion
as people were believing their system had locked up because they kept pressing
the OK button and getting the same message displayed. If Clipboard Extender
is now started under these conditions, a clearer message is displayed and
the program will close automatically. You should still delete or reduce the
text in the clipboard and then start Clipboard Extender again.

The following changes apply to version 3.0:

* Clipboard Extender integrates itself more closely with Windows. What this
means is that Clipboard Extender does NOT need to manually and periodically
check if the clipboard's contents have changed. It is automatically
notified by Windows when any cut or copy operations are done. This results
in significantly less system overhead than previous versions, since Clipboard
Extender remains almost completely idle, when running in the background,
until it receives such a notification from Windows.

* Due to user request, Clipboard Extender will now open files containing
non-ansi characters (as defined for Windows). Many people are using
Clipboard Extender in conjunction with downloading files from news services,
etc. These files usually contain some non-ansi characters, which Clipboard
  Extender previously could not open.

* Clipboard Extender can accept a single filename as a command line
parameter, the contents of which is immediately placed into the clipboard.

* Text can easily be converted to all upper case or all lower case characters.

* Most of the options have been placed into a single dialog box, making it
easier to change several options at once.

* A toolbar has been added, making it easier to execute common commands.

* During drag and drop operations, you can now choose between inserting either
a line, the filename, or nothing to separate dropped files.

* Support has been added for dragging and dropping .CLP files from File Manager.

* A Windows Help File has been added.

The following changes apply to version 3.1:

* Fixed a bug in Setup which caused Clipboard Extender's icon to be created
in a Program Manager group other than the chosen group under some specific
circumstances.

* Resolved an incompatibility between Clipboard Extender and OLE 2.0 complient
applications such as Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, MS Works 3.0, etc.
