Errata for the CalComp 907 Windows Driver Ver. 7.00

These notes refer to the 907 portion of the CalComp Windows driver. This
driver can be used with any of the CalComp products supporting the 907
format.

Some Windows application programs do not support vector output for raster
images or area fills. CorelDRAW 5.0 will not produce output of raster
images or filled graphic objects for the 907 vector format. In applications
that produce background drop shadows the background may overlay the
foreground information; e.g., Arts & Letters 3.12, Microsoft PowerPoint
4.0. These problems can be remedied by using the CCRF driver, or Postscript
when available.

Clipping plots on TechJET plotters can result from a number of issues. If
the plotter reports clipping on its front panel, the clipping may be due to
the way the paper is loaded. To maximize the imageable area, first load cut
sheet paper with the short edge about 1/16th of an inch from the top, white,
horizontal load line on the plotter. Load the edge of the paper nearest the
fixed pinch roller about an 1/16th of an inch from the vertical, white load
line on the edge of the plotter. The moveable pinch roller is then
positioned such that the outer edge of the pinch roller aligns with the
edge of the paper.

Clipping on cut sheet media on the TechJet Color series plotters may also be
produced by application programs that assume symmetric margins on the
plotter. Examples are CorelDRAW and Cadvance ver. 6.0.

Clipping of lines may become apparent when pen widths in excess of 1/8th of
an inch and the "Clipping Window" is enabled are used.

Since the 907 driver is a vector driver, obtaining exact screen colors may
not be possible. An application color palette may be altered and saved
that more closely matches the colors used in the application. In some cases
the application may substitute different line styles, dashes, dots, etc., to
indicate different colors; e.g., Microsoft Excel 4.0. In those instances
where a closer color match is desired, using the CCRF driver, or Postscript
when available, is a better choice.

Errata sheet for the CalComp CCRF-IL/PS Windows Driver 2.32

These notes refer to the 3.00 version of the Windows driver. The
firmware in the TechJET Color plotter should be 1:30 or later to
use the "PS" output format. When using "CCRF" output format,
this driver can be used with any revision TechJET Color firmware.

If you have an earlier version of the PostScript firmware, you
may wish to upgrade to the latest version. Colors from
applications that use CMYK colors (like Corel Draw) will be
improved when using the "Auto Color" driver option.

The latest firmware is available from CalComp's free BBS. The
phone number is 714-236-3045. Modem setting should be 8 data
bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. If you cannot access the BBS, our
Technical Support Hotline can ship an update diskette.

Printer Fonts. The printer fonts described in the user manual
are not available while using Windows. However, the driver
supports Windows True Type fonts and downloadable PostScript fonts.
Downloadable PostScript fonts can be installed in Windows with
third party software such as the Adobe Type Manager.

No Plot Produced. In monochrome mode, the Intensity and
Contrast settings are very sensitive. If the plotter appears to
"flush" the printed data, this may be caused by the image
becoming all white. Restore the Intensity and Contrast settings
to their default values.

Clipped Image in cut-sheet mode. Clipping can be avoided by
selecting a user defined paper size. The width should be set to
w - 1", where w corresponds to the actual width. The length shoud
be set to l - 4", where l is the actual length. For example if Tabloid
(11"x17") is used , the user defined size should be 10" x 13".

Clipped image with Micrografx Designer 4.0, Adobe Illustrator 4.0,
Arts & Letters 3.12, Cadvance 5.0 & 6.0. This problem occurs in
cut-sheet mode only. Make sure that the correct margins are being used.
For the TechJET plotters, the margins are 2" at the top and 0.5" for
the left, right and bottom. Clipping can also be avoided by following
the procedure described above.

After printing, the print menu item and the tool bar print
button in Cadvance 5.0 and 6.0 no longer responds. Normal
operation can be restored by selecting any other menu item or
tool bar button before printing. This anomaly will be corrected
in future releases of the driver.

Map to Black. When the output format is "PS", the "Map To
Black" option causes a Postscript error if used with firmware
releases prior to 1:30. See the information above on the CalComp
BBS to upgrade. "Map to black" is not available on the Drawing
Masters and the Solus 4 with the "PS" option.

Windows Communication Problem. Windows may not communicate
correctly using the serial (COM) ports from the driver. In the
Control Panel/Printers/Connect menu, select LPT ports instead of
the COM ports. The data transmission is quicker than serial
communication and is more reliable.

Image Area -- Loading Media. Since the PostScript language is a
page description language, many applications will generate
PostScript data that selects the intended page size. Since the
margins of the TechJET Color plotter are larger than many
printers, the application and "driver" software must use the
imageable area as specified in the "PPD" files provided with the
Windows driver, and on the MacIntosh diskette. Most
applications will access the margin information from the driver
or the PPD automatically. See Section 4 of the user's guide for
information on using the PPD files with Aldus Page Maker.

The driver has no way of determining how the media is loaded in
the plotter. In order for the margin and page dimensions
provided to the application to be correct, the media must be
loaded with the shortest edge of the media (left to right)
across the plotter. If the shortest edge of the media is less
than 11 inches (279mm), then the driver assumes that the media
is loaded with the longer media dimension across the plotter.

In order to be able to actually print with margins as specified
in the user's guide, the paper must be loaded with the edge of
the rubber "pinch" roller aligned to the edge of the sheet of
paper. If you think that part of the plot is missing from the
edge, use a larger sheet of paper, or re-load the same size
sheet with the rubber pinch rollers farther out toward the edge
of the sheet. (This applys to TechJET plotters).

		Notes on Installation and Setup

Installation

Two methods of installation are supported on the Windows 95 distribution
diskettes: a custom installation procedure, and the standard Windows 95
Add Printer Wizard. The custom installation procedure is the preferred
method of installation. However, for plug and play and use of the
Windows 95 standard Postscript driver, the Add Printer Wizard is supported.

Plug and Play Support

The following models have plug and play support:

TechJET Color 5324
TechJET Color 5336
TechJET Color 5324 GT
TechJET Color 5336 GT
TechJET Color 5336 GT/PS
TechJET Color 5336i

Note that the GT models return a string identifying them as standard
TechJET Color models. Therefore, installation of a driver for the
5324 GT and 5336 GT models as a result of plug and play detection will
configure a standard 5324 or 5336 model (no GT in the name). However, the
driver will have full functionality under these circumstances.

Plug and play support is on Parallel ports only. No serial port plug and
play support is provided at this time.

Printer Names

Support for user defined printer names is provided for both the
CCRF/IL and 907 drivers if installed through the custom setup procedure.
Installation of the 907 driver through the Add Printer Wizard does not
support changing or customizing the name of the plotter. Note that the
custom installation procedure does not explicitly give the user an
opportunity to change the name of the printer, however, Windows 95
allows the user to change the name of a printer device after installation.
Changing the name of a 907 supported printer after installation by the
Add Printer Wizard will mean that a single configuration may be shared
by more than one printer device.

Using the Windows 95 PostScript Driver With PostScript Compatible Plotters

If your CalComp plotter has the PostScript compatible language option, the
standard Windows 95 PostScript driver may be used. To install support,
use the Windows 95 Add Printer Wizard (double click on the Add Printer icon
in the printers control panel window). Select the plotter model from the
list presented:

	CalComp TechJET 5336 PS
	CalComp TechJET 5336 PS Roll
	CalComp TechJET 5324 PS
	CalComp TechJET 5324 PS Roll
	CalComp Solus 4 54424 PS
	CalComp Solus 4 54436 PS

Selecting one of these options will install PostScript support using the
Windows 95 PostScript driver.
