    * Overview

    How many times have you gotten into trouble by forgetting an
    important event? In my case it's been too many to count. So I
    looked for something to help me out. Problem was, all the reminder
    programs and schedulers I looked at were more trouble than they were
    worth. After a short while they all became idle. So, I decided to
    write my own. Remind Me! is the result.

    Conceptually Remind Me! is very simple. You just list the events you
    want to be reminded of and indicate how many days in advance you want
    the reminders to begin. That's it. Unlike other schedulers, Remind
    Me! is so simple and un-obtrusive that you'll actually use it.

    You'll never again forget your anniversary, Aunt Bertha's birthday,
    taking out the trash, car payments, that credit card payment due in
    the middle of the month, or Billy's t-ball games. And you don't have
    to remember to run Remind Me! each day because it automatically
    informs you of upcoming events whenever Windows starts up.

    The Three Event Lists

    Remind Me! has three event lists. The lists always appear in the
    following order:

    * "These events occurred while you were away." list

    These events happened since the last time you used Remind Me!. They
    are shown just in case you forgot and/or want to reschedule any of
    them. Recurring events (ones that happen over again) are
    automatically rescheduled even though they appear on the list. If
    there are no events in this list then the "DON'T FORGET" list appears
    first, else you need to select "Continue" to move to the "DON'T
    FORGET" list.

    * "DON'T FORGET" list

    These are upcoming events that you wanted to be reminded of at this
    time. Move to the next list by selecting Continue.

    * "Complete listing of events" list

    This list contains all the events in the file, sorted by number of
    days until the event occurs. Non recurring events which have already
    passed are listed first.

    The following are explanations of some of the less obvious Remind Me!
    terms and functions.

    * Days to Event (DTE)

    This value is the number of days until the event occurs. Events that
    only occur once, and have already past, have a negative DTE
    indicating how many days ago they happened.

    * Event "Code"

    The "Code" for each event indicates how the date for that event is
    determined. An explanation of the Code value for the selected event
    is listed below the event display.

    Non-recurring events have no code. A "Y" denotes yearly events, "M"
    is for monthly events. Recurring day-of-the-week events show the
    occurrence first (0-5 with 0 being every week, 1 being the first week
    .... 5 being the last week) followed by the first 2 letters of the
    day of the week.

    For example:

    0Tu   every Tuesday
    3Mo 3rd Monday of every month
     Y    yearly, birthdays for example
     M monthly, car payments for example
    6Su last Sunday of each month
          non recurring event

    * Lead Time.

    When you add an event you specify how far in advance you want to
    start being reminded of it. This is the lead time of the event. For
    example, Mom's birthday is May 18th but you want Remind Me! to start
    reminding you 1 week in advance. So when asked what the lead time
    is, you'd enter 7, for 7 days. If you only want to be notified on
    the day of the event, then enter 0 as the lead time.

    * Adding an Event

    To add an event just select the "Add" button. Adding an event is
    self explanatory except perhaps for the process of defining the event
    date. If the event can be defined by a numeric date like January
    10th, or the 1st of each month, then select "Actual date". If it's
    defined by a day of the week, such as every Tuesday or the last
    Friday of the month, then select "Day of Week". However, if it's
    defined as occurring so many days from today (like 30 days from now)
    then select "Projected".

    * Deleting an Event

    To delete an event, select it and then select the Delete button. The
    event isn't actually deleted until you save your changes. This
    allows you to restore it. To restore an event marked as deleted
    simply select it and then select the Delete button. In other words,
    deleting an already deleted event un-deletes it.

    * Hiding an Event

    Hiding an event removes it from view but doesn't delete it. For
    example, let's say an event "Rent is due" occurs on the first of each
    month. It has a lead time of 5 days. Sure enough, 5 days before
    rent is due Remind Me! starts reminding you. So you pay the rent.
    Why continue being bugged for the next 4 days? Hide the event. That
    way it won't show up for the next 4 days. Don't worry, the event
    automatically becomes visible again after the event has passed.

    The Hide button is a toggle. Therefore "hiding" a hidden event un-
    hides it.

    * The Calendar

    Selecting Calendar from the top menu brings up a mini calendar
    showing today's month and the month before and after today. If you
    enter a new date the calendar will be redrawn to the new date. This
    does not affect the date Remind Me! uses as today's date.

    What day of the week were you born? When is New Years in the year
    2000? Remind Me! will show you in seconds.

    * Faking Today's date

    This "Other" function let's you change the date you want Remind Me!
    to use as Today's date. It can be useful for a variety of purposes.
    Maybe you want to find out what events you need to take care of
    before you go on vacation. Just change the date to the first day of
    your vacation and look at the upcoming events.

    To restore Today's date as the date Remind uses simply select the
    "Restore Real Date" button.

    * Importing Events from DOS version.

    If you have been using the DOS version of Remind Me! this "Other"
    function lets you input those events into this Windows version.

    * Automatic Reminders during Windows start-up

    Remind Me! can automatically notify you of upcoming events whenever
    Windows starts up. To implement this feature select "Other" at the
    top menu, then select "Configure" and then select which lists you
    want displayed at Boot Up. Likewise, to disable this feature simply
    un-selected the Boot Up lists.

    If there are no events to be displayed then the Remind Me! Summary
    will not appear, otherwise you can view or print the list(s) or
    choose to go into the main Remind Me! program.

    * Freshen DTE values

    A situation may arise where one or more of the "Days to Event" (DTE)
    values are incorrect. Selecting this "Other" function updates all
    the "Day to Event" values.

    * THANKS!

    Thank you for taking the time to evaluate Remind Me!. We hope you
    find it useful.
