The Basics
==========
LeagueTable is a Windows application for keeping track of a football
(soccer) league.

The program allows you to set up a list of up to 30 teams, and then
to enter results throughout a season or tournament. Throughout the
season the program keeps track of the latest league table; you can
also display a variety of statistics, graphs and so on. The application
also offers the ability to attach textual information to the numerical
data. This can be information on the individual teams in the league,
and/or diary-type information collected through the year, such as
manager sackings, scandals, transfers and so on.

LeagueTable runs under Windows 3.x, and comes complete with a demo
league of fictional teams and results, AND the data files required for
the 1995/96 FA Carling Premiership.

LeagueTable is shareware. The save functions are disabled, but can be
enabled by entering a password. The password will be sent to you when
you register, and will automatically work on any and all future versions
of LeagueTable.

Data Supplied
=============
Two leagues are supplied. A small demonstration league, with some
results already entered, is stored in the file DEMO.LGE. The files
PREM9596.* hold all the information you need to start keeping track
of the 1995/96 FA Carling Premiership.

Installation
============
1. You will need a copy of a file called VBRUN300.DLL. You may already
have a copy. Look in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory; if it's there, you
can carry on. If not, you will have to get a copy. See the section
"The VBRUN300.DLL file", below.

2. Create a new directory where the application will be installed, for
example C:\LEAGUE. From now on, I will refer to this directory as the
"install directory".

3. All the files supplied with LeagueTable (including this one) are
supplied on a self-extracting zip file called LGE13INS.EXE. If you are
reading this, you have probably worked that out by now. The recommended
way of extracting these files is as follows. In DOS, put LGE13INS.EXE
into your install directory. Then make sure that your current directory
is the install directory, and type

	LGE13INS

and press enter.

This should create a number of files in your install directory. If you
type DIR, you should see the following files:

	LGE13INS.EXE
	GRAPH.VB_
	GSWDLL.DL_
	GSW.EX_
	GRID.VB_
	CMDIALOG.VB_
	COMMDLG.DL_
	LEAGUE13.EX_
	LEAGUE.HL_
	SETUP.EXE
	VER.DL_
	SETUPKIT.DL_
	DEMO.LGE
	SETUP.LST
	SETUP1.EX_
	PREM9596.I1
	PREM9596.I10
	PREM9596.I11
	PREM9596.I12
	PREM9596.I13
	PREM9596.I14
	PREM9596.I15
	PREM9596.I16
	PREM9596.I17
	PREM9596.I18
	PREM9596.I19
	PREM9596.I2
	PREM9596.I20
	PREM9596.I3
	PREM9596.I4
	PREM9596.I5
	PREM9596.I6
	PREM9596.I7
	PREM9596.I8
	PREM9596.I9
	PREM9596.LGE
	PREM9596.TIM
	README.TXT

4. In Windows, select RUN from the File menu in Program Manager. In
the box marked 'Command Line', type C:\LEAGUE\SETUP. (If your install
directory is not called C:\LEAGUE, substitute your own install directory
name as appropriate.) Press enter, or click on 'OK'.

5. The installation program will now run. If you see the message "Cannot
find VBRUN300.DLL", please refer to step 1 above.

6. You will be asked for the name of the directory where you want to install
the software. Enter the name of your install directory. A new program group
and program item for LeagueTable will be added to Program Manager for you.

7. You can now run LeagueTable by double-clicking on its icon in Program
Manager.

Try opening the files DEMO.LGE and PREM9596.LGE to see what the
application can do. Full instructions are available in the Help option
(press F1, or select Help from the menu bar).

As mentioned earlier, you can now delete some files, if you wish. The
following files can safely be deleted from the install directory.

	i. All files whose file extensions end in an underscore
	     character ("_").
	ii. SETUP.LST
	iii. SETUP.EXE

The VBRUN300.DLL File
=====================
VBRUN300.DLL is a file that contains library routines needed to run many
Windows shareware applications. It is often not supplied with shareware
that requires it. This is because the file is quite large, and it would be
inefficient to supply it with each piece of software that requires it.

If you don't have a copy, you can probably obtain it from the same place
that you got this software from. For example, on Compuserve you can
download a copy from the WINSHARE forum; it is available from most such
service providers and on many Bulletin Boards (BBS's).

Once you have your copy of VBRUN300.DLL, make sure it is located in the
SYSTEM directory below your Windows directory. You should then be able to
install LeagueTable successfully.

Selecting a data file automatically
===================================
You can have LeagueTable automatically load a particular league when you
run the application. To do this, follow these steps.

1. Select the League icon by single-clicking on it.

2. Select PROPERTIES from the File menu in Program Manager.

3. Ensure that the Working Directory box holds the name of the directory
that contains the League file (i.e. a file with a LGE extension).

4. Ensure that the command line contains the full path for the
LeagueTable application, for example C:\LEAGUE\LEAGUE13.EXE.

5. To the end of the Command Line, add the name of the league file that
you want to load. The path and the .LGE extension are not required.

6. If you want, you can also change the Description line to reflect the
name of the league that you will be loading.

For example, if your copy of LeagueTable is in a directory called
C:\LEAGUE, and you want to load a league stored in a file called
C:\PREMIER\PREM9596.LGE, your Command Line should contain the text:

	C:\LEAGUE\LEAGUE13.EXE PREM9596

and your Working Directory should be:

	C:\PREMIER

You might also change the Description to read:

	F.A. Carling Premiership 1995/96

Registration
============
There are two ways of registering the software.

1. Send your name, address, and payment of 10 UK Sterling to:

		Steve Mainprize
		118 Rostrevor Road
		Stockport
		SK3 8UT
		UNITED KINGDOM

Cheques should be made payable to Steve Mainprize. Sterling cheques or
Eurocheques are acceptable, as are international money orders in sterling.
Please do not send foreign currency cheques. Your password will be sent
when your cheque has cleared.

2. If you have access to a Compuserve account, GO SWREG. Select
"Register Shareware". Search for Registration ID 6327. Registration
via this method costs US$ 20, which will be charged to your Compuserve
account. Your password will be sent via e-mail within a few days.

Distribution
============
If you want to distribute this software, please do so. However, I ask
that you only do this by copying the original self-extracting zipped
file LGE13INS.EXE.
