NEWNOTES.TXT * * * * NEW STUFF ADDED IN EACH NEW VERSION * * * *

Ver 73: Mostly WEATHER changes:
* Added optional WX symbol definitions for the existing lettered circles
Drizzle, Rain and Snow Showers, Haze, Lightening, Smoke, Dust(sand)
Blowing snow, Freezing rain. See WX commands
* Hurricanes, Tropical Storms and Depressions shown in Red, Yel and Blue
* Wind radius shown for these storms if exact format is followed
* Manual DF Bearing now works for mobiles. See DF.txt
* Added MScatt receive mode and sender has choice of timing sector
* Faded objects no longer Dead Reckoned. Leaders also fade
* Dots command added for replays to force all symbols to small dots
* New MASTER/SLAVE mode for comnercial applications using networked
computers. One master has TNC/RADIO, but all slaves can see the data.
* Ver 73a added HSP toggling using F8 key while in the O-C-T mode

Ver 72d: More mods for Meteor Shower
* Forces FADE off in MScat mode so you can see posits over 2 hrs old
* BText no longer limited to 3 chars in MScat mode
* CONTROLS-XMT command now works in MScat mode
* Fixed MScat mode for Kantronics TNC's so that BEAM heading and Pwr show up
* alt-A ALL-CALL-PREFIXES now works in all modes, not just DXcluster
* In MScat mode now TNC FULL-DUPLEX is enabled so all locals transmit
at same time vice consequtively for collision avoidance

Ver 72c: ALL versions of APRS ignore packets with fewer than 3 characters
in the data field. This means that APRS will ignore a MS packet with no
text in it (the kind manually generated by a TNC by hitting multiple ENTER
keys), even if it DOES have a GridQSQ in the address. Ver 72c, fixes this
and WILL accept 0 length packets in MS mode. It also adds TWO-WAY MScat
capability. See METEOR.txt.

Ver 72b: Major change is for MEteor Scatter Mode:
* Added CONTORLS-DIRECT-FILTER which in Meteor scatter mode filters out
all stations EXCEPT those heard direct.
* Fixed LORAN CSE/SPD so it would see $LCVTG...
* Fixed RAIN GAUGE for U-II that I broke in 72a
* FIxed mobile DF to properly add relative bearing to GPS heading
* Fixed MAPLIST parsing so that MAPLIST.MI no longer equals .MID

Ver 72a: Fixed 72. Is OK except for adds in 72b.

Ver 72: Meteor Scatter mode! EVERYONE is needed to participate!
* New METEOR SHOWER mode for upcoming Persieds 11 to 15 Aug. See METEOR.txt
* SPACE mode resets BEACON timer on hearing space digipeater. See Space.txt
* If CONTROLS-FILTERS-GdSq is on, APRS will use gridsq's in the TO address
* Hopefully fixed the cmd: showing up in packets
* Rain should now zero when you reset your U-II rain counters
* Better map border display colors and ranges.
* KB8JXO, the ultimate map maker, made a 2 mile 100,000:1 CD ROM map of my
neighborhood. Zoom in to 3909 07636 and see his work. He will do these
maps for you, but please recognize it takes 4 to 6 hours each, and you
should make a sizable contribution ($45?) to his WIDE Digi fund! hi hi

Ver 71c&d: more tweaks for SAREX:
* Fixed SPACE mode to better predict oerhead passes (95 mins vice 91)
* CONTROLS-FILTERS-GRID mode will decode a GridSquare in the TO callsign
of a packet. Good for shortest possible posit report (for Meteor Scatter)
* Packets with CZAR will show red
* Map borders now keep up with out-zooming
* Hook on PLIST now UPlink command toggles on/off vice QUIT/UPLINK
* Changed CONTROLS-FILTERS-GATE to HFgate

Ver 71b: More tweaks:
* From NOW ON, only WIDE-RELAY digipeaters will be shown as GREEN
* Better SPACE mode. See Space.txt
* Added $PGRMA for Garmin altitude
* Added QRT mode (F6) which forces your SPEED to ZERO as you approach any
destination. This keeps others from DEAD RECKONING you forever...

Ver 71a: Took my first Doppler DF fox hunt with APRS,
and really had fun! See new DF.txt. Lessons learned:
* Replay DOPPLER.hst to see our track.
* Fixed INPUT-SAVE and INPUT-UP which didn't work in 71
* Fixed BULLETIN display format that got broken in 71
* New INPUT-HEADING cmd for entering a COMPASS heading when stopped with GPS
* Neither Manual RELATIVE bearings nor automatic DF bearings are accepted
if the vehicles current HEADING is 000 or does not exist
* If Validated for DF and GPS NMEA speed drops below 4 knots, then Heading
is NOT UPDATED. Last CSE is still used.
* Pings are no longer trapped on L-list
* Tried to remove cmd:cmd: glitches

Ver 7.1: Major changes to MAP distribution. I have been adding most of
the roads from 64 mile maps into the larger regional maps such as ARLAMSAL,
IAILINMO, TXstate, OH-MI-WV and CAlif. This allows me to move these 64 mile
maps to the regional distro map zips instead of all of them being in the
basic USA distro. This makes the basic APRSxx.zip file smaller and the
regional Xmapsxx.zip files larger. This trend will continue. This process
requires balancing all of the MAPLIST.USA, EAS, CEN, WES and SE, so please
report any errors, omissions or heirarchy problems. To see my
boundaries between regional distributions go to USA map and hit MAPS-ALT
comand. The Ohio mapmaker extrordinare, KB8JXO, has done over 90 maps of
Ohio and is now spilling over into other states. He will make you a map
for a contribution to his WIDE repeater fund... Estimate 4 to 6 hours labor
per map...
* Fixed DF code so dual port DF and TNC/HSP modes both work at same time
* Added DF Single Port mode so TNC, GPS, DF can all share one comm port!
* Added F8 key to force an instant HSP/GPS fix.
* Added INPUT-SAVE-my command to mark, and save your present posit as an OBJ
* Added INPUT-UPLINK-my. Same as above but also uplinks the OBJ.
These commands are useful for marking a DF fix on the map while you continue
to drive to a new location. See DF.txt.
* Added the ability to specify a special OPS-DIGI path for each outgoing
message. This has advantages and drawbacks. See Help.txt

Ver 7.c: Improved Chess game with better symbols, and Alt-S-OTHER-GAME mode
See end of new README\APRS.DOC.
* Added alt-S-MODES-altNET command to permit operation of a subnet on an APRS
freq without cluttering up everyone else. This is the converse of IGNORE
mode. See details in HELP.TXT under alt-S SETUP descriptions
* Added alt-S-GPS-NMEAlog command for toggling on a log of NMEA data

Ver 7.b: Fixes bug in 7a dealing with #1 map HOT key. Also adds MASS maps
* Adds SPACE mode (same as Grid-Sq mode but it BEEPS if U are successfull!)

Ver 7.a: Upgraded to MAPFIX12 that can now KILL Labels, making it easier to
get all the map labels in the right place.
* 7.0 stations receiving a message QUERY vice the new OPS-QUERY would not
ack the query resulting in no message movement on the sender until that
?APRS? message was erased. Now, 7.a does ack a message Query, for backward
compatibility, but using the new OPS-QUERY-Callsign, is preferred.
* MAPS-PLOTS-RANGErings now plots in Great Circle Range and Bearing
Above 1024 miles an additional yellow line shows the actual Bearing
* APRS now supports ARNAV data formats in SPM/HSP modes (for aviation GPS's)
* GATEWAY filter to ignore packets via GATE. (CONTROLS-FILTERS-GATE)
* Can select Kilometers vice statute miles for Range (CONTROLS-Km)
* APRS now handles ECHO/WIDE aliases for KAM when band switching
* KN4IM suggests trying 14.105 keyboarding freq for 20M APRS. Although APRS
is not as effecient as a CONNECTION for keyboarding, it is an IDEAL tool
for monitoring a Keyboard channel. Also the 14.100 LSB we had suggested
gets a lot of QRM from the 14.099 BBS freq.

Ver 7.0: Two changes that are NOT backward compatible. 1) To accomodate
NWS watch boxes up to 400 miles long, the APRS OBJS-AREAS-LINES shapes are
now 4 times bigger. All stations in a network using these symbols must
upgrade to 7.0. 2) MAPFIX1.bas now has an optional compression feature.
If maps are compressed (60% size and 33% speed) then only 7.0 can use them.
Save all original maps as xxxx.ORG so that you can always go back to the
original for such commands as the IMPORT and OVERLAY. Since they are already
somewhat compressed, there is NO advantage in compressing them before
zipping them for distribution. The main advantage of compressing a map is
on a slow 8088 laptop running from a floppy. I suggest that all maps should
remain uncompressed except by an individual for his own use.
Other changes:
# New 32 mile maps from 2,000,000 CD ROM is EASY using MAKEMAPS1.bas/exe!
