                               Dark Castle v8.0
                               ----------------
This file will contain the changes or revisions to the Dark Castle
game and will serve as a quick guide to SysOps in setting up upgrades.

TREAT THIS AS A NEW GAME INSTALL FROM PRIOR OLDER VERSIONS!

 Whats new in v8.x?
 ------------------
 Major Hardware support upgrade!!
Major Software/Play and BBS Configuration upgrade!

All new communications library support for COM1-4 and non-standard IRQ
as well as 16550 high-speed UART support toggle (auto is defaulted).
DTE speeds to 115.2kbps are now supported on all ports.

Command line options have been streamlined and previous Node #, and BBS
dropfile type are no longer needed. More is detailed within the new
extended format CASTLE.CFG file. Read this carefully! The name for
the configuration file can be any valid DOS filename now, which allows
for maximum customizing for multinode BBS's (ie Castle1.cfg, Castle2.cfg,
etc.) This is passed on the commandline or the program will default to
 reading the standard CASTLE.CFG file.

 The following special options are available only via commandline;

Non-standard IRQ support. The following is an example of how to set it.

   Dcastle Castle.cfg irq=5

Non-standard IRQ can be passed via the IRQ=x switch where x = the new
IRQ value. The supported values are 2,3,4,5,7,10,11,12,15.

To disable automatic 16550 uart support, add the switch FIFO=OFF.

To set the game for local keyboard play outside a BBS, use the following
switches; Local for non-color, /Local/c for color mode.

 Example; Dcastle Castle.cfg Local/c

DO NOT USE the old SETUP.EXE program to setup your castle.cfg file from
a previous (prior to V8.x) game version, as the new config file format
 is different!

 REGISTERED USERS:
 -----------------
Note the different lines for registration information now as well!

Until registered, multinode play is locked to one player at a time in
the game. While in use, the game will inform others trying to enter it
that it is in "play". Once registered, up to 255 nodes can play the game
simultaneously in full SHARED mode provided that SHARE.EXE is loaded on
 the current machine.

FOSSIL driver support is not needed. The game has it own interrupt
driven communications library and will co-exist fine with BNU.COM and
will not interfer with a FOSSIL driver that is installed.
