                         Eeeek BITS! 1995
  -------------------------------------------------------------------
Eeeek BITS! has changed drastically during the past few months. As
you can probably tell, we've opted to take on a more graphical,
interactive format. From this issue forward, Eeeek BITS! will only
be published in two formats: Interactive & IBM Graphics (see Notes)

1: Interactive - This consists of 256 colors, sound (in .VOC format),
& it comes in a self-displaying .EXE file. This file may be placed
in a file area for download by your users, or displayed through a
door if possible as long as you register your system with us. Eeeek
BITS! is still FREE! This file may NOT be placed on BBSes without
     registration!
                                  Note:
This version of Eeeek BITS! supports most video adapters and
sound cards (including Sound Blaster, AdLib, & compatibles) but you
MUST have the device drivers for your card installed. If you are
unable to hear the sounds, contact Eeeek! for a full list of
supported cards, or contact the manufacturer of your sound card for
     help.

2: IBM Graphics - This consists of the standard 24x78 boxed ascii
text as used to be published. This file may be displayed on your BBS
or placed in a file area on your BBS, as long as you register your
system with us. Eeeek BITS! is still FREE! This file may NOT be
placed on BBSes without registration! (Note - this format will come
in single pages & continuous text)
                                 Note:
On Beyond Eternity BBS (310)-371-3734/(310)-370-9464 sysops
will find MANY, MANY utilities for converting this IBM Graphics
format to other formats. For instance, there is a utility that will
make it 7-bit ASCII, there are several that will turn it into a DLX
pub, there is another that will allow you to colorize it with ANSI
color and many others. This will enable registered sysops to convert
the magazine to whatever format will work best on their systems.
Sysops who have registered with us are free to convert Eeeek BITS!
however they wish, so long as the content and text of the magazine is
     NOT altered or removed.

Eeeek BITS! Interactive Version (filename: EBI-295.ZIP)
  --------------------------------------------------------------------
Eeeek BITS! supports SuperVGA resolutions for most graphics cards.
Note: to display SuperVGA, your video card must contain sufficient
  video memory.

If your pc does not contain a VGA, supported SuperVGA card, & monitor, you
may still import 256 color, but these will be displayed using either 2 or
16 colors. If you move Eeeek BITS! onto a system which can support 256
colors, you may then view the magazine with all colors displayed. Sometimes
the results obtained when converting a 256 color image to 2 or 16 colors is
 less than satisfactory.
                          WINDOWS OPERATION:
Eeeek BITS! Interactive may be run as a full screen DOS application under
Windows 3.1, subject to certain limitations. Most users will prefer using
the quicker DOS environment. However, should you wish to read from within
 Windows:

1: Start the program under Windows by using the EEEEK.PIF file from the
directory where Eeeek BITS! was installed. This is a Windows information
program which has been optimized for use with Eeeek BITS!

2: Windows limits the memory resources available to the DOS sessions it
runs. This may cause problems when working with very large images. If you
require more memory, you may need to modify the EEEEK.PIF file. Be careful
when modifying, as even small changes can cause problems under Windows.

3: On some PCs, Eeeek BITS! may run slower under Windows than under DOS.

                             OTHER HINTS:
A: To Start Eeeek BITS! Interactive at a particular page other than the
first page, start the magazine at the DOS prompt with the following switch:
/Kx where x is the page number to start at. Example: EBI-295 /K10 - This
would start Eeeek BITS! on page 10.

B: To force Eeeek BITS! Interactive to run in a video mode other than 256
color, use the /G switch. This displays a menu of video modes available on
 the system. Example: EBI-295 /G
