 I MYTHed That One!

 * MYTH: Lady Godiva rode through town nude with only her hair covering
          her.
FACT: Though Lady Godiva, married to Leofric of Mercia, in the 11th
century, supported the rights of the peasants rather than her
husband's action of tax collection; there is no record of her
ever riding through town nude. As a matter of fact, this story
did not appear in any written form until a century and a half
          after Godiva's lifetime.
   MYTH: Hemlock is a poison.
FACT: In Europe hemlock is a plant belonging to the carrot family and
all parts of it are a deadly poison. However in the United States
hemlock is an evergreen tree and have nothing to do with poison.
MYTH: Golf, as most believe, started in Scotland.
FACT: There is no firm evidence that golf started in Scotland. Some
historians believe it did, in fact, begin in Holland and was
originally played on ice not grass. It is also linked to a game
the Romans introduced into England when they occupied it - that
game was called paganica. In paganica a leather ball stuffed
with feathers is used and a bent stick. More than likely this
game was the ancestor of the game of golf.
