"The River Wild" - though I am a Meryl Streep fan - I think she is quite
capable as an actress - as a matter of fact I've not seen her in anything
that she wasn't good in - even the less than important role in "Death
Becomes Her" she was still good. But she is very good in a very good
 movie in "The River Wild."
A family, husband and wife struggling in their relationship, take a river
rafting trip. Their son has a problem with Dad - he doesn't think highly
of him and from outward appearance believes Dad to be wimp. Dad appears
to be just that. Mom, Meryl Streep, on the other hand, can do no wrong.
Everything she does comes out perfectly. She strives for perfection and
seems to achieve it. While on the river trip they come across three men,
Kevin Bacon was one, who are having trouble making it down the river. The
"guide" takes off, but in truth he dies from a gun shot wound, leaving
the two novices to fend for themselves. Ill prepared, they flag down
Meryl Streep's family and seek help. The fun begins now. The mystery and
excitement doesn't end 'til the movie is over. Kevin Bacon is an actor with
equally good ability as that of Ms. Streep. He makes you want to hate him
and plays the role well. The surprise of the movie is the ending - and I
won't tell you about it - but for adventure and edge of the seat, hand
wringing excitement this movie is worth renting and renting again.
