TITLE: 950128 SUPPORTED SOUND CARDS AND CHIPSETS FOR MULTIMEDIA
              UNDER OS/2 WARP 3.0

DESCRIPTION OF SYMPTOMS:
    Users have installed Multimedia and cannot load the sound
    card device driver when booting into OS/2 WARP 3.0

DETAILS OF RESOLUTION:
    Below is a list of the supported Audio devices under WARP 3.0
    for Multimedia:

    Creative Labs:

    Sound Blaster (8 bit - ISA or MCV)
    Sound Blaster Pro (OPL2 - 8 bit - ISA)
    Sound Blaster Pro 2 (OPl3 - 8 bit - ISA or MCV)
    Sound Blaster 16 (OPL3 - 16 bit - ISA)
    Sound Blaster AWE32 (Wave table - 16 bit - ISA)

    Media Vision:

    Pro Audio Spectrum 16 (MVA508 chip - 16 bit - ISA)
    Pro Audio Studio 16 (MVA508 chip - 16 bit - ISA)

    ** The newer Media Vision boards have a new chipset MVA508B.
        This currently not supported in OS/2 WARP 3.0. A new driver
        will be provided my Media Vision in the future. **

    Jazz 16 (16 bit - ISA)

    ** MediaVision OEM'ed the board for the IBM Valuepoints which
        work woth the supplied driver for WARP. However they also
        OEM'ed it for GATEWAY 2000. The Jazz 16 driver is not
        working properly with this board. Users need to call Gateway
        or Media Vision for support. **

    IBM:

    IBM M-AUDIO or M-ACPA (16 bit - ISA or MVC)

    Crystal Semi CS4231 (16 bit ) Built on planar.

    ** The following are the Thinkpad models that have the CS4231
        Chipset that are supported under Warp 3.0 :

        750 (all)
        755C (all)
        755CS
        755MONO
        Travel Multimedia 360CS

    Compac:

    Compac Buisness Audio (16 bit - ISA) Built on planar.

    ** Available on Compac machines. Models may vary. **

    Aztec:

    Sound Galaxy Nova 16 (16 bit - ISA)

    ESS:

    ESS688 (16 bit)


    Toshiba:

    Toshiba T4700c (16 bit) Built on planar.
    Toshiba T6600c (16 bit) Built on planar.

    ** Both machines have the Buisness Audio Chipset **


    OS/2 WARP does not support compatible sound cards. Only the
    true Sound Blaster/PAS 16/Sound Galaxy/Jazz 16 are supported.
    If users have installed compatible sound card then must contact
    the vendor for proper OS/2 drivers.
