                            ZipIt version 1.0
                            by Eds Software

* In order to use ZipIt 1.0 pkzip.exe, pkunzip.exe, and
zip2exe.exe must be in a directory that is listed in
your path statement in your autoexec.bat. If you dont
feel comfortable changing your autoexec.bat then put
these files in your dos directory.
To find the directory Pkzip is located in open file
manager and then select C:\. When C:\ is highlighted
click on File. Under the file menu you will find
Search. Click on Search and type Pkzip.exe in the
resulting dialog box. Make sure to check the include
subdirectories box so the whole disk will be searched.
When Pkzip.exe has been found write down the name of
the directory where Pkzip.exe is located.

To make the changes to your autoexec.bat:
Open notepad, and select file open. When the
dialog box appears the default directory is Windows.
Click in C:\ to move to the root directory. You will
not see your autoexec.bat listed in this box at first.
In the bottom left corner of the dialog box there is a
box named List files of type. Click on the arrow next
to that box and select All Files (*.*). Now you should
see autoexec.bat listed in the File Name box, if so
double click in it to open the file.(you may need to
scroll through the files to find it)

When your Autoexec.bat is open look for a line that
looks sort of like this one:
               PATH=c:\dos;c:\windows;c:\etc...
Add the name of the directory where Pkzip.exe is
located to this line. Make sure to type it exactly as
the other entries are typed. When you are done click
on file, then save. To use these new settings you must
restart you computer. First close Windows, then restart
your computer as you normally would.

ZipIt 1.0 is a desktop PKzip utility for windows. It allows access to all of the
commonly used features of PKzip without having to remember the PKzip
command line arguments. ZipIts graphic environment enables even the most in-
experienced user to quickly and easily compress or de-compress data using
PKWares PKzip, PKunzip, and Zip2Exe. All the user has to do is chose the drive
and the directory where the desired files are located, then enter a name for the
zipfile. ZipIt also allows the user to include subdirectories. If the user is unfamiliar
with the process of file compression they can select the (Just ZipIt) button and
ZipIt will select the type of compression for them. When all of the command
requirements have been met ZipIt opens a DOS window in which the, zipping, un-
zipping will take place. After the file has been processed the DOS window closes
and ZipIt is ready to go again!

Disclaimer
ZipIt 1.0 was created with the CA-Realizer development system. ZipIt 1.0 is a
prototype, and although it functions perfectly on the system it was developed on
(386SX, 33, 8M memory), I make no guarantees about the integrity of this
program. Any damage to or loss of data incurred while using this program is the
responsibility of the user.

Controls:
Zip Button:
The Zip button activates the PKZip portion of the program. When the
program starts the Zip controls are active by default. To use the Zip
section just select the directory where the files that you want to
compress are located, and then type a name for the Zip file in the
filename box. If the files you are compressing dont have any sub-
directories choose the first option button. If the program or files you
want to zip has sub-directories then select the second button in the
options box. If you just dont know whether there are sub-directories
or not, then pick the third option (Just ZipIt!). When PKZip is done
processing the file control will return to ZipIt 1.0.

UnZip Button:
The UnZip button activates the Pkunzip portion of the program. The
Unzip options and input boxes are a little different, than those for the
Zip portion of the program. When you press the UnZip control button
the filename box changes to a drop-down list box this allows you to
view the available zip files, and choose the one you want to unzip.
Select the directory as you did with Zip and then click on the arrow
     next to the filename box.
     (Unzip button continued)
Choose the zip file you want to unzip then select the appropriate
option. As with Zip you can select the (Just Un-ZipIt) and ZipIt
will make the choice for you.

Make a Self-Extracting Zipfile Button:
This portion of the program allows you to make a self-extracting
Zipfile, which means that you dont have to use PKunzip to extract it.
To make a Self-Extracting file click on the Make Self-Extracting
Zipfile button, then select the directory in which the zipfile you want
is located, and select the desired zipfile from the file names box. Now
all you have to do is click on the Make EXE button, and ZipIt will do
     the rest.
