INTRODUCTION
------------
This add-on disk provides support for both After Dark and Deskpic style
screen saver modules from BocaSoft WipeOut.

The After Dark Support Module allows WipeOut to run any of the hundreds of
.AD modules included with popular products from Berkeley Systems such as After
Dark 2.X, more After Dark, Star Trek - The Screen Saver and The Disney
Collection Screen Saver. In addition, 3rd party modules conforming to the After
Dark developer specification are also supported. Digital audio for the After
Dark modules also works from WipeOut.

Deskpic is a shareware screen saver written for OS/2 1.X in 16 bit code. This
add-on module allows WipeOut to run dozens of existing Deskpic saver modules.
Support for Deskpic is provided by 32->16 calls to their dynamic link libraries.

AFTER DARK SUPPORT
------------------

After Dark modules, a well known set of screen savers by Berkeley Systems,
are supported by WipeOut through DDE messages sent from OS/2 to Windows.
A small WIN-OS/2 program known as the "WipeOut AD Server" must be running
in your seamless Windows session.

Over 125 .AD modules were tested during the development test phase. We are
happy to report only one module (Fireworks, a freeware module) did not run.

After Dark modules for Windows are dynamic link libraries containing
Window's executable code. WipeOut is able to run this code from OS/2 using
a small Windows program called, BSADWIN.EXE. WipeOut for OS/2 controls
this program via Window's Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE). Because of this
control mechanism it necessary to have BSADWIN.EXE running before the
WipeOut program is started. Also, Window's DDE must be 'On' and set to 'Public'.

BocaSoft WipeOut controls and runs After Dark savers in a seamless WIN-OS/2
session. The BocaSoft AD Server program will automatically "inject" it self
into any common seamless session that is running on your system, saving
resources. If no seamless WIN-OS/2 session is available the Server will create
one when started.

HW_TIMER can be turned on in the WIN-OS/2 Settings for speaker driver support.
BE AWARE- using HW_TIMER can seriously impact system performance! If you use
Window's programs regularly you may want to put the WipeOut AD Server in your
OS/2 startup folder. This will start a common Win-OS/2 session and allow much
faster initialization of your Window's applications. To terminate the server
just select "WipeOut AD Server" in your window list and close it.

After Dark support included in BocaSoft WipeOut requires that a full After
Dark Saver product be installed and resident in the WIN-OS/2 environment
on your system.

Audio for the After Dark modules is generated from the WIN-OS/2 environment.
You must install the appropriate drivers in your WIN-OS/2 environment to
support your audio card. You may also use the PC Speaker driver in the WIN-
OS/2 session. The driver may be selected in the WipeOut After Dark settings
dialog via the Sound push button. When audio is selected for the After Dark
savers it will prevent audio from being generated on the WipeOut "native"
savers while the After Dark server is running. When the server is exited
audio will be restored for the "native" savers. This is due to the audio
device contention problem associated with MMPM/2 audio devices.

WipeOut's "Idle time animation" setting will not effect After Dark support.
Currently all After Dark savers will run at the priority of the host DOS
environment.

Microsoft Scenes Screen Saver support is included via the After Dark module
but palette problems in OS/2 Seamless cause distortion of The Scenes images.

RUN MODES
---------

When running in ALL mode the saver will cycle through all of the appropriate
saver modules, .AD for After Dark and .DSS for Deskpic. In RANDOM mode a single
saver will be selected from the group.

Try running the Deskpic and/or After Dark module configured in ALL or RANDOM
mode and the WipeOut Random saver configured to run the Deskpic and/or After
Dark modules. This will continuos play and interesting set of savers.

INSTALLATION
------------

1. Install an After Dark saver in your WIN-OS/2 environment ( if it is not
already installed) Make sure After Dark runs correctly in WIN-OS/2.

2. Make sure WipeOut is NOT running.

3. Determine the drive and directory where your current version of
    WipeOut is located.

3. If you downloaded a .ZIP file then unzip all files to a diskette.

4. Insert the diskette and change your working drive to the floppy drive,
     e.g. "a:", type "install".

5. Select the correct drive and directory of your current WipeOut
installation when prompted by the install program. You must
indicate furnish the install program with the drive and directory
of WipeOut or the add-on install will not work.

6. Attention WipeOut 1.0 Users: For passwords to work properly with
After Dark you must replace the file called 'wipelib.dll' with the
new version located on the diskette. If the current file is locked,
you must remove WipeOut from any system startup, reboot and replace
this file. WipeOut 1.0A users need not replace this file.

6. Start the WipeOut AD Server.

7. Start WipeOut.

8. Select "After Dark" from the list box. Select the "options" push
button to bring up the After Dark dialog box. Enter your
After Dark files directory in the "Directory" entry field and
tab out of the field. You should see a list of After Dark modules.

9. More help information can be found in the WipeOut help for After Dark.

                  communicate with BSAD.DLL.

3. DESKPIC.DLL - WipeOut Deskpic module.

4. WIPELIB.DLL - A replacement WipeOut DLL to fix a password problem
                  with After Dark support.

5. *.DSS - Deskpic freeware modules.

AFTER DARK NOTES
----------------

1. MultiModule is not currently supported.

2. Volume control is given for every saver whether or not it supports
audio. Volume settings for non-audio savers will be ignored.

3. A new WipeOut DLL called wipelib.dll must replace the old version.

4. After Dark support requires the BocaSoft AD Server to be started first or
problems will occur when trying to use the mouse on the parent dialog. This
is an OS/2 bug which has been reported to IBM. Simply exit WipeOut, start
the server and restart WipeOut to work around this problem.

5. The 3rd party "Fireworks" saver module does not work at this time.

6. The MIDI Mapper configuration must be setup in WIN-OS/2 to support music/
sound for After Dark modules that use it. Examples include several of the
     After Dark Disney Collection Savers.

7. The Confetti Factory saver will have redraw problems after the first time
     through.

8. In the Disney Collection M-Audio MIDI causes some savers to break.

9. Some savers such as Einstein and MagicKingdom may not come back because
of poor Window's audio performance. You may have to kill the server via
    the OS/2 Task List.

10. To use the After Dark PC speaker driver turn the HW_TIMER on in the
     Win-OS/2 Session settings.

11. DDE must be On and set for Public to enable OS/2 -> Windows DDE
communication. These settings are the OS/2 default.

DESKPIC NOTES
-------------

The Screen animation feature of Deskpic is not supported.
The Deskpic savers all play the same music.
