This document provides information about general x86 hardware requirements,
supported peripherals, and system platforms that have been tested on the Solaris
(TM) 2.4 computing environment.

For specific hardware configuration information necessary to install and run
Solaris on your particular hardware, see the x86 Device Configuration Guide.

For information about known problems or other information that was not available
when this document was printed, see Solaris 2.4 Open Issues and Late-Breaking
News.

MP System Requirements
----------------------
All processors on x86 multiprocessing (MP) machines must have a
        floating-point coprocessor.

Supported Hardware
------------------
In the tables that follow, entries marked with a double asterisk (**)
indicate hardware that is supported in a Driver Update. Driver Updates
are produced periodically as support for new hardware becomes
available. For information about hardware that is supported in the
current Driver Update and for information on how to obtain an updated
Solaris 2.4 Hardware Compatibility List, contact SunSoft Customer

        Solaris installation.
2. 640 x 480, 16 colors. Any 256K or better VGA adapter supporting
        standard IBM mode 0x12 graphics.
3. 640x480, 16 colors. Select "16 color, 640x480 VGA panning @800x600
(for experts only, see docs) " when configuring the display
adapter during Solaris installation. Warning: This selection
enables panning mode on a standard VGA. This video mode
supports a virtual resolution of 800x600, but is only capable
of physically displaying 640x480 pixels at a time. This may be
a preferred mode to use on small screens, but the use of
panning may require some training. See the x86 Device
        Configuration Guide for more information.

**Support for this device is available in a Driver Update. See page 2
