ABSTRACT:

This document explains how to put the appropriate files on to a
floppy diskette so a computer can boot Novell DOS 7 using that
diskette. This document addresses the problems that might arise
if Novell DOS 7 security or Stacker are enabled on the user's
computer.

ISSUE

A customized bootable floppy diskette is required to boot a
system with Security or Stacker enabled.

Use the procedures outlined as follows to create a bootable
floppy diskette. The bootable disk created by this
procedure will allow hard disk Security to be disabled if
you know the Master Key Password or to access a hard disk
that has been compressed with Stacker.

     1. After you have booted from your hard disk with Novell
DOS 7 already installed, insert a blank floppy diskette
into the A: drive and type the following command:

               FORMAT A: /S

The floppy diskette will be formatted and the operating
          systems files transferred.

     2. If you are compressed with Stacker, there are two files
you must copy to the floppy diskette: STACKER.BIN and
STACKER.INI (these files will not exist if you have not
used Stacker to compress data on your drive). These
files normally reside in the root directory; however,
they are hidden. To copy them successfully, you should
          use the following commands:

               XCOPY C:\STACKER.BIN A:\ /HR
               XCOPY C:\STACKER.INI A:\ /HR

     3. Copy UNSECURE.EXE from the original Novell DOS 7
diskette 1 to your floppy diskette.

USING THE DISK YOU HAVE CREATED

When you use this bootable floppy diskette, you will not be
prompted for a password even if security is enabled. The
computer will boot normally to an A: prompt. If security is
enabled and you try to access the C: drive, you will receive
     an error message as follows:

                    INVALID DRIVE SPECIFIED

Type UNSECURE (Press ENTER). At this time you would be
prompted to enter the MASTER KEY PASSWORD. After you have
used your MASTER KEY PASSWORD, you need to reboot your
machine. SECURITY will now be disabled. You need to know
the MASTER KEY PASSWORD to be able to gain access to your
     hard disk.

NOTE: If you have used STACKER on the primary boot
partition of your hard disk, you will receive a
               different error message.

Even though the error message will be different,
run UNSECURE with the correct Master Key Password
to disable SECURITY on your hard disk. If you
have not enabled SECURITY on your hard disk, you
will be able to gain access to your hard disk and
have access to your compressed information with
               this bootable diskette.
