
		   GEDCOM Information
			 November 1993

This collection contains information, data, and programs pertaining
to GEDCOM, the GEnealogical Data COMmunication standard proposed
by the Family History Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, and adopted by many developers and users of
genealogical software.  The purpose of GEDCOM is to simplify the
exchange of computerized historical and genealogical information.
This collection is provided as a convenient way to share GEDCOM
information among interested parties.


On behalf of GEDCOM users and developers, appreciation is expressed
to the many individuals and institutions who have helping to establish
the GEDCOM standard.

This GEDCOM collection is contained in four compressed files named
CSOURCE.ZIP, CSOURDOC.ZIP, GEDCOM.ZIP,and DEMO.ZIP.

To access the compressed files:

1.  Create appropriate directory (GEDLIB) on your system, then from that directory,

    ENTER
	 PKUNZIP -d A:CSOURCE    (This contains the GEDCOM developers collection)

	  The -d option creates the necessary subdirectories.
		Please read the README.TXT file copied into your appropriate directory.

2.  Create appropriate directory (GEDLIB) on your system, then from that directory,

    ENTER
	 PKUNZIP -d A:CSOURDOC    (This contains documentation to the GEDCOM developers 
						  collection)

	  The -d option creates the necessary subdirectories.
		Please read the README.TXT file copied into your appropriate directory.

3.  Create an appropriate directory (GEDCOM) on your system, then from that directory,

    ENTER
	 PKUNZIP -d A:GEDCOM    (This contains The GEDCOM Standard 5.3 (draft)
				GEDSTAND.T82 is a DOS text version
				GEDSTAND.W82 is a Wordperfect 5.1 version)
	    The -d option creates the necessary subdirectories.
		 
4.  Create an appropriate directory (TOGEDEMO) on your system, then from that directory,

    ENTER
	 PKUNZIP -d A:DEMO    (This contains FIX2GED and GED2FIX programs and 
					   and associated grammar and data files as well 
					   as documentation for the two programs. Note the
					   README type files and the .BAT files )
